...but I want to hunt with the guy on the cover of the Cabela's Waterfowl catalogue. I count no less than 50 duck bands on his extra-length lanyard (presumably it's that long so it can hold all those bands)..... and that's not counting the bands in the sections covered up by his glove and beard!

Why even his dog looks "steely-eyed"!
 
I was thinking the same thing. I'd hate to see that lanyard caught in an o.b. pull cord in the dark.
Didn't he play the bass in "Spinal Tap" ?

Don't you guys know that is what a duck hunter is supposed to look like!?!?! Sheesh, it's chapter 7 of the prostaffer manual :)
 
For several years I have helped biologists band ducks in Florida and yet in 31 season I have only seen 1 band shot from any boat I have been in.

Bob,
I noticed the cover as well the other day. Guess it struck me similar to how it struck you. I picked it up and threw it in the trash. Never even looked inside...

I must be getting old and have everything I need.

I have a goose band from when I was about 12 or 13 and have never even seen another duck or goose with a band in the 28 seasons since.

Looks like we aren't very lucky.

I did the responsible thing and promptly recycled it. It's scarry if they think the average waterfowler aspires to be THAT guy...

So, to show my ignorance on this subject, is THAT guys really a "duck hunter" (one of those jack-assses making kill videos) or did they get a model to pose for the cover?

Oh btw I don't seem to have that catalog handy. I think I got it but I throw them all in a pile and look on their site. Are they duck bands and not goose bands? In some areas they band a lot of local geese so getting goose bands isn't very rare. If they are duck bands the guy probably buys them on ebay like someone said. I have my one band on my lanyard but if I had a dozen I would only pick a couple to have on there that seemed special. I don't understand looking like you have a shiny aluminum pipe around your neck. Tim
