I dont think ducks fly over south carolina

It's been slim scouting these past two weeks. It looks like I'm going to have "buy" my birds this year, or maybe I can go shoot those white ones I see kids feeding down the road! :)
 
I hope your wrong Leslie,cause I have invested alot of time and $ to go diver hunting on Lakes
Russel and Hartwell.If I were a duck,I wouldn't want to be here in this heat.Hoping for some cool
weather in December and January.

They will bypass SC because the word is out what excellent shots you all are. Don't worry we'll send some over from the Mississippi flyway---those we miss :-)

Joe Some where, some time back. There was a map that showed your ducks come from the Great Lakes area. I promise I will leave a few go South. I intend to build some Wood duck houses so you have more opportunitys.

I believe what few ducks we get in the upstate of SC come from the Eastern and Mississippi flyways.Personnaly I'm not going to ask them,
but if they have a band(I wish)I will report and find out.These man made lakes have no feed to hold ducks.They just rest for awhile because of the mild weather.
 
I went scouting and this is what i saw
35 geese in 1 field
14 eating from a deer feeder in the edge of a field
2 wood ducks
1 diver duck i think it was a bluebill
several tame mallards from the neighbors pond
 
Leslie,I haven't been out on the lake for three weeks.Just too darn hot to go sailing/scouting.I don't even know when opening day is on Honkers
or ducks.DNR is suppose to get it posted this month on the internet.I expect I'll know soon.Been working on my decoy rack for the Sneak Boat.I
know you had asked about someone making a repair and was told that I had info on it.That is not so.My MLB Wigeon is new (April) and has only been out
for trials 4 or 5 times,with electric motor.Let's hope for a colder than normal winter and northern winds to bring them down.Pics Later.

Hey Joe, Is your boat actually tagged with the words sneak boat in black on the sides? The boat i was looking at had those words on it. I have a gheenoe that i am currently using. I have always marched the marsh along side and crawled inside when the water gets deep. It's not that it isn't a good boat I just think I would like something that can float in 6-8 inches of water. Seeing as how I have had two back surgeries in a year I would like to float instead of drag.
 
2 surgeries on your back Leslie?! I wouldn't wish that on anyone. How are you getting along now? And more power to you staying with the sporting life after that!
 
Leslie,I don't know if or when I'll use my boat in a marsh.Not much of that here.If i did alot of that I would like the kevlar version which weighs under 100lbs.
My boat is a MLB Zack Box Wigeon.Mark Rongers has had one for 25 years or so IN wood,now makes them in FG.The DND sent me an Email yesterday with all the waterfowl seasons and bag limits.Other than early goose and teal,the duck season opens on Nov 21-25,then Dec14-Jan27.

My boat only has the MLB logo on the stern deck. I had a duckbill pole head sitting around for about 25 years.I bought a 10' closet pole from Lowes last week and made a push
pole in the event I'll hunt in shalow water.You might consider polling rather than getting in and out of the boat

Craig, I ruptured two disc in my lower back moving furniture into a new house. I have only partial feelings in my left leg and what does feel hurts like the dickens. So the doctor retired me from work, sounds better than disabled. My total back surgeries is 3. I had one in 1999 at age 23. The doc says for me to take it easy do what I can and use my head instead of my back. I have a PASSION for waterfowl. I can see them flying or hear them and my mind wanders of shooting them. Joe, thanks for the reply. I am unsure about the boat i've seen with that on the side. I really think it looks like a crow boat or caiman. It did have controls and all but it has been stripped at sometime. Due to the damage on the bottom I am choosing to pass on it.
