I guess I am starting the build.

Well tomorrow I am going to clean up the front porch. No heat out there but its dry. I plan to loft onto the plywood and build up the molds for the frames out there. I am going to also purchase some plywood and start looking for some nice clear dry ash. Shouldn't be to hard to come by. Might as well get the cedar when I am at it... Then its time to start laminating the frames of the sneak box. I have read as much as I can and now its time to loft up those frames and start building them. Get ready for lots of questions everyone. One good thing is I am a computer tech by trade so posting pictures will not be a problem.

Part of me wants to build a stich and glue devlin boat first but when I am shooting bills out of the BBSB next season I think I will get over it.

Which one are you building? Did the book from Mystic help any? I've switched from a march boat to a one man layout from Waterfowl-Works.com. When the weather breaks and I can clean out the garage, I'll start on it. Hope all is well up there.

Denny,
Its beeen an interesting process.

The foam boat you saw is still sitting under the tarp waiting for something to be done with it. Who knows I might pick it up again and try and finish it but the flat bottom makes me shy away from it plus I doubt its strength with the core being foam. Only the glass would add strength.

I did a lot of online reading first. Then I ordered several books. I read them cover to cover first they were books on different boat types and then on construction. Finally I ordered the plans for Mystic Seaport on the Perine BBSB. They were interesting but I realized unless I understood lofting I couldn't use them. I bought a book on lofting and have been reading it bit by bit trying to understand. I have the basics down so now i want to put it into practice. Also Perry had already lofted the boat to full size and then created a table of offsets for the frames. This means that I can use that table to build the frames to the boat without having to do LOTS of math and loft the plans all the way to full size myself. He saved me atleast 80 man hours.

When you come up this fall to hunt I will show you the boat and the process it took to get it done. I plan to take lots of pictures and post often as I can. Since I am really still behind on the learning curve I hope as I figure it out I can post info and help others learn the stuff a bit faster and hopefully not struggle to much.
