I hosted a special guest Wednesday...

Dusan Smetana was down in Florida for Shot Show and my good friend Terry Gibson, fishing editor for Outdoor Life Magazine put me in touch. Dusan came along to photo my hunt with Shah.

I only have the one photo of Dusan you see here...he did all the photography on the hunt, and it'll be a while before he goes through the photos, but in preview on his camera; he has some sweet photos of Shah retreiving Bluewing Drakes, and he kept each of us busy.

Dusan wanted Pintail photos, so we ventured to the Pintail hot spot and all I can say; I learned more in one day than in the last year, pointers and tips on shooting and setting the camera. Dusan shoots all Canon.

Again I have only the photos I took of the Pins and a few other species...I hope you enjoy.

Do you have any photos of your v-boards out on the water? Since joining this forum Chris Lillehoff and I have made a bunch and hunted over them a few times. At first i was a bit skeptical..... but now I'm on board. I made some swan v boards and have come to the conclusion that ducks like swan decoys better than they like spinners!

thanks for sharing the pics

you need to share those last 2 with Kieth Mueller !!!
you might see that at the next Worlds Comp. , Kieth being one of the few that could pull it off!!!!

oh yeah..................................Awwwwwwesome.

Hitch,

You photos, as always, are fantastic. It really helps to get through the snowy months up here to see what the ducks are up to in Floriday.

That must have been a blast having Smetana shoot your hunt! You'll have some photos of Shah that will be priceless. I've seen several of Smetana'a fishing photos before, but had no idea that he did so many hunting and wildlife photos also. Recognized several of the covers on his website, but hadn't noticed who shot them.

Thanks for sharing that.

Wow! Never heard of that guy, but after looking at his website, I've seen his work before!
Unbelievable talent and skill.

Awesome sprig pics . . . amazing animation in those shots.

I came across Dusan's work in most of the fly fishing mags when he hit the scene. I believe he's from Montana if I'm not mistaken(didn't look). Anyway, his work is fantastic. What a neat day and good light ta boot. You know, I got to thinking how often I'd like to take good photos up here and usually we have flat light and generally horrendous photo conditions. I guess that makes it more challenging. One of these days when I get a nice digital I'll set the standard pretty high when I use your work as the bar.

Hitch -

WOW those are beautiful shots. I am just getting started with the camera in the blind and have a ?

Is it always a good idea to use a polarizing filter when taking shots on the water ?

Thanks for any insight you can share about filters.

sarge

I use UV filters, and you remind me of something I forgot to ask Dusan what he uses, and when.

Hitch great shots!

You have any closeups on those tree duck "v-boards" Im going to be making a bunch over the summer and Id like to see how ya did it...Love the pintail shots

Can't wait to see the photos wherever they end up......

Dusan does some amazing things with light...and to learn that he doesn't photoshop to get it is amazing......lots of time spent waiting for just that perfect moment......

Neat stuff for sure.....I'll take a lesson next time I'm down your way pleas and thank you....

Steve

It will be my pleasure to have you back again Steve, as always. Oh and I have many more photos too from Wednesday...just haven't had time to "not-photoshop them too much" :-) And next year maybe Dusan will return when we get the color back in our marshes. TS Fay really took the color out, but the 500 year rains will bring a bounty next year for sure...an investment in marsh building, thanks to God Almighty himself.

PS - Scott took a look at the "outer limits" where we use to roam. Maybe we will be able to roam there again next season. It is a BB refuge beyond past glory...I have photos.

Hitch

so just go ahead and put me on the calendar now......

The news on the "Outer Limits" returning to, and exceeding, its previous stature gives me the incentive to complete the "standing" BBWD Y board that I've had in my mind.....if I start now I should probably gett hem completed just in time to pay for overnight shipping to get them to you for the season.....

Looking forward to the pictures of your "spring Duck season".....

Steve

and get this economy kick started I'd be sorely tempted to come shoot Snipe....you know how much I love those little guys and this years numbers beat anything I've ever seen before......hands down.......

Talked to a customer the other day and offered him a heck of a deal on three trailers....pretty much a 20% reduction over the last ones he bought...he acknowledged that the price was "incredible" but then added, "sorry I can't take you up on it but the way things are now if they were (3) for a dollar I couldn't afford them".....

Guys in retail like Lee will understand how that indicates just how bad the economy really is....oooooppppssss didn't mean for this to become a "whine"....

Enjoy the Snipe season......take pictures...

Steve
