I LOVE A STRONG NORTH WIND!!!!

What a great evening! Ryan and I went out for what looked to be just a quick decoy dip before I had to meet with the builder who is tearing my bathroom to smithereens. Out of nowhere and fast as rockets came six CANS!!! I drew on a lead drake and folded the third bird back. Ryan folded his bird clean (thank you Scholastic Trap Team)!

For you guys that see them all the time it might have been a whoopty doo moment but this is only the second can I've ever taken and Ryan's first. We are not a can heavy zone around here, but like I said, I do love a North wind!

Way to go Ballards!!! That just got my blood pumpin' for tomorrow's hunt with Mr. Lee and Brian F. I'm sure you're thinking about getting you son's first Can mounted...right? What pose does he like, hehehe;)

Well, they are either hens or eclipsers---Betcha they eat good, though! nice to see you two having bonding time

Took a sled full of stool samples out to our blind-we have had two days of east wind, and i , in my elan, only took calf highs---After a brief walk on the road to the edge of the marsh, i was instantly greeted by--WATER!
Things went sour quickly--water now IN da boots, but not cold at all, so what the heck, may as well plod on---the sled was a piece of cake, since it floated all the way out
Got to our second foot bridge, which crosses a few old CCC ditches---damn thing floated off---managed a giant step fording, and got to the blind a bit later---Crossed a big plank bridge, which was well under water---always fun, especially in the dark---
Got the dekes all settled in on the bench, did some repairs on part of the face of the blind---fortunately i left well over half a bundle of switch grass in the blind for such events----The walk back was less eventful---saw quite a good number of fowl, a line of cormorants---emptied about a gallon of water from each boot, AND thamked FATHER, for blessing us with water, even though it was a bit much!
Now, it's just a matter of waiting until next friday, when we open--BTW, found a board to use on ditch number two-just gotta drag it out next week-or remember to do so---
Nice cans, guys!! Naz Drowie!

Dave, OH YEAH! It would be hard not to get her mounted since we live across the street from the town taxidermist. It'll be up to him how he wants her done. You guys should have a blast in the AM. We saw cans, blue bills, a ruddy, mallards, and woodies. The wind is starting to kick down here again.

I wish we could go out in the AM but have athletic duties, Ladies BBall in Caledonia with a two hour break, then Cross Country in Wyoming.... Maybe another evening rodeo will work out.

Good luck in the Morn.

Way to keep going Obie!

Good luck to you george; I'll be at little creek for openers day ,I hope i get adraw,my lab buster is raring to go.p.s wear a life jacket on your way to your blind be safe.Talked to Lil' steve today he said he'll try to pick up the woodies soon. nazdrovya [is good luck] didn't know you had polish in ya Haaa Haaa.

Cool! Congrats on the cans.

Cans can be fast! I did the same thing on GEs one year. For some reason we had quite a few that year. Went out to a spot to specifically target them. I had a flock come in behind me, heard the whistling. Stood up, turned around just in time to get on them, swung past the lead drake, shot and dropped the two hens behind him, both stone dead!

Cas, i just have to walk out---hoping the FATHER allows some of the water to disappear, though!
Good luck with the draw---we have good days and bad ones, but never CAN days, like those Ballards!!! the kapusta kid and son scored pretty good, for sure!
Brian, I just realized from the pic of you two with the cans that RYAN is nowTALLER than you-Strong, like a percheron, too!!

Double B,

Congrats on the cans...I absolutely love it...Kinda of slight shy on the female version of the "Red Headed King", but you know what sometimes a man's gotta eat...

I must say thanks for posting a Potato head...That bird is within the first dozen birds I ever carved...It would never win a contest but you can spotting on the water from a MSN Google map photos...Wonderful to see it floating in Michigan...I was slightly north of you guys this weekend...Hunted near Evert, MI for ducks, grouse, and woodcock...Four of us in two days took only 14 ducks and 4 woodcock, and 1 grouse (nice red phase)...Weather was abolutely horrible...South winds, rain, rain, not to mention more rain and then temperatures rising Sunday morning...

I am sorry that I have no pictures to share with the rest of forum of either hunts, birds, or your Coot floating the marsh we hunted...Next hunt you'll have the spot light...I ended up having my camera slide between the seat and get underneath the seat...Searched all weekend...Thought I lost it in the marsh...

Regards,

Special K
