I thought this site was about duck boats, decoys and waterfowl hunting and history. Enough of the political crap or you will be driving a wedge between the members of this last internet duck forum.

You are not alone.

Brad and Dave:

Civil discourse

IF I understand your logic...

We can discuss fishing, as long as we don't discuss fishing management issues decision making or analysis of a fishery's direction or stock declines.

We can and have discussed gun laws that are pending, or being considered, sponsored etc., as long as they are criticized and ridiculed.

We can apparently discuss, and have discussed environmental regulations at the State and National level as long as the source and driver of those regulations and the underlying motivation(s) are not mentioned or identified.

We can discuss environmental disasters like an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, extensive flooding, earth quakes, etc. at length, as well as the cost and extent of environmental damage and the follow-up clean-up as long as we stop short of any longterm political implications...

We can discuss oil lease development in coastal areas as long as we don't mention what coastlines were excluded...

We can discuss and have discussed gold mines, coal mining, oil drilling, as well as land use law alterations at the State and Federal level, but not the motivating politics or industry financing and lobbying driving these initiatives.

We can and have discussed pending alterations to the Clean Water Act that would eliminate roughly 60% of federal oversight of these water courses and the protections afforded; apparently, as long as we don't touch on who is pushing for those changes and why.

We can and have discussed alterations to environmental laws and regulations originating from executive orders, as long as we stop short of identifying who signed these into law.

Are any of these directly duck boat or duck hunting related?

Where do you guys feel that the First Amendment should be restrained in its language and intent, particularly when you have not only the personal right, but the ability to not read or click on the thread? NDR stands for?

Yes, Dave I understand full-well that you don't care for me. I discerned that some time ago.

Freedom of choice and expression...interesting concept, as well as a Bill of Rights guarantee. Apparently something that you feel should be excluded from this website.

Sadly, I suspect we are at a cross-roads where the future of the Republic is at stake...I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

I am not disputing your right to say what you want only stating that by and large this site had not been a forum for political discourse. It?s not my site and I post very little so have at it.

Huh? Where did this come from? Yes, we have discussed different viewpoints on such topics as "the weight of a fish spear" and on "spring Walleye fishing in flood waters" (two that just come to mind). Not sure how you translate that, into "I dislike you as a fellow human being".

Maybe I am just unique in that I find it easy to separate my feelings toward a person, as opposed to my feeling of their views on any topic.

I agree ... This has historical been a safehaven from everything else that we are constantly bombarded with in life. Things like 2nd Amendment issuea are directly tied to hunting. Big issues have always been welcomed..9/11... Notre Dame, etc .. but that last post did seem to go WAY off topic .

Anyway... I am not sure that I am a fan .of the new paint job... It is normally used against st a rock or tree lined shore, or as a tender

Anyone here can choose what they want to read or respond too. I haven't been a member on here for too long but I haven't seen enough posts off topic to raise concern to warrant a topic such as this.

I know there are some genuine old school duck hunters on here is why I read on this site. Your unhappy thoughts are welcomed but don't expect positive feedback from your choice of topic.

I like it, kind of reminds me of the Victory at Sea documentaries where they would camo up the Cruisers to break up the out line for anti submarine tactics. Should work for ducks too !!

Oh, I forgot one topic that generated a near verbal public stoning: Climate change... Multiple threads initiated...

Todd Osier did an excellent job of outlining the science that supports the hypothesis as well as refuting the critics the last time around in the multi-week debate.. He didn't change any minds among the "Old Guard", despite the continuing and accumulating body of evidence that continue to support the contention.

I finally understand your point of view!!

I'm bringing this topic back to life...this website needs a hunting forum and everything else forum.

We have common ground with hunting but not all of our hunting blind talk is the same if this makes sense?

I disagree. We do not need another hunting only forum.

In the past 20+ years this forum has been, for the most part, self policing. Most topics, whether DR or NDR are acceptable as long as the participants are courteous and respectful. Yes, now and then, we've strayed beyond those boundaries and people have quit or been banned but it's been a looong time since any of that happened - fortunately.

We are a community of people brought together to foster traditional skills and ideas. In the pursuit of those ideals we have become friends and in many cases very close friends and hunting buddies. Still, we disagree at times and that's healthy.

While we may know of others political philosophies that is one area where we haven't strayed and it's my opinion to continue in that vein. We get blasted by politics in all other media, lets keep this site the sane refuge it has always been.

I haven't been here that long, but NDR should be more out in the open for new members. This is not universal language and who reads the fine print?

Also, putting DR or NDR is like having two forum sections.

I'm just suggesting an idea to keep a website from being stagnet.

Maybe not growing the website can be good?

First , let me agree with what Pete said.

Second, I'm not sure why you feel this website is "stagnant"? I'm sure Eric would listen to your suggestions but I'm not sure why you are not asking him directly? (or maybe you did?)

I direct your attention to this link; introduction .Of particular interest is the last sentence at the bottom of the page in the link. This site was and is aimed at a "niche" audience. I'm not sure changing the scope of the site in order to appeal to the masses, is what Eric intends. But again, you would have to ask him.

Maybe "reading the fine print" and learning a bit of history about the site and why it exists, can be a good thing.

Stagnant is just fine and dandy.. and we should not change because new members want it to... Hmmmm? sounds like immigration... [;)]

If by stagnant.. you be SLOW... yeah.. . not near enough people seem to post about duck hunting stuff.. in particular.. BOATS and BOAT BUILDING...

I don't understand why having another forum to separate out the NDR would be changing the scope of the sight? Seems it would only help.

Maybe stagnet was the wrong choice of word. However to keep this wonderful niche alive being stagnet will not do a thing for this niche.

This website is the only one of its kind and the owner has done well showing this sport. Its embedded throughout the website very well. It made me become an "immigrant" to this site. I didn't join for the forum. So applause to the history of the site and all the careful thought and effort that went into it.

Again, don't care either way but let's not twist that comment into immigration or that the scope will be changed.

One of the things that I love about this site is the simplicity. No bajillion webpages to have to scroll through to see what people are up to, whether NDR or DR. If there is something that I look at and the title does not even interest me, then I will not click on it. It is that easy. Or if I click on it and it either becomes too deep in a subject that I am not following or goes off in a direction that does not interest me, I will skip over reading the new posts. It is not like there are a hundred new topics posted here everyday so i do not feel as though a NDR page and a DR page is needed.

As for the politics stuff, while I do not want to see the site become inundated with political posts I also have no problems if a post does become political SO LONG AS everyone stays polite. It is okay to have view points that differ and quite honestly some of those discussions in the past have made me question what I think enough to learn more about the topics. Or I have just flat out learned something. People can be passionate about their beliefs and still remain polite and civil. And a lot of the stuff that has been political has been outdoors related so worth being discussed.

When the threads get too political or I just disagree with what is being said or I think both sides are getting their knickers in a wad then I jjust will not continue to read the thread. Again...pretty easy.

My .02 for whatever it is worth...probably not even that much.

Dani
