I need some input on a boat ....

I'm looking at the Gheenoe brand of boat. I've seen some here with both conventional outboards as well as mud motors. The reason I'm looking at these are there are more small lakes I'd fish and the marsh areas I would likely hunt. Anyone here have one of these boats who'd like to comment? There's many of these forsale on the web but I haven't located a dealer for a test ride since I'm sure a brand new on is out of the question right now. I've contacted a couple of people on Craigs list and I keep hearing "You can practicaly stand on the gunnel and not tip one". Of course that's what I want to hear but if that's true I'd like to hear it from someone that's not trying to sell me one.

Thanks,

Ed L.

I had a 15' RiverHawk with a 9.9 Evinrude and it was a great little boat. Me and my friend both 6'3" weighing around 280 each hunted out of it and yes you can stand anywhere you want to in the boat. If you are looking for one I would recommend it highly for the type use you described it would be used for. If you got say a 15' and put a Copper Head mud motor on it you could go anywhere you wanted. Mine drafted in less than 3" of water. But it is not a boat you want to put 100 decoys in with another hunter even though its possible.

my dad has a 15' riverhawk thats probably seen the water 10 times since he bought it. I would be willing to bet he would sell it but you would have to drive up to carolina (Wilmington) and get it. PM me if your interested and i can get a price and a picture

Ed,
Several years back I hunted with Chuck Lichon up in Saginaw Bay and we used his Gheenoe for marsh hunting after sculling on Coot in the Brant II (article on our website of that hunt). I was amazed at how stable it is. The hull design is similar to our Brant II and has some of the same stability. I would have NO reservations with getting one for hunting & fishing the waters you're indicating.

Funny you should say that. Tonight I went to try out a Gheenoe a guy has for sale. I was so far off the beat and path the guy talked me in on my cell. I was afraid I was going to lose reception. Anyway I was about to step away from the boat after taking it for a test ride when the guy told me to walk towards him. The boat was parallel to the shore so I was walking towards the stern as I was turning there coming towards shore was a head about 15 yards from where I had pulled the boat up to shore. The damn things head had to be 12" between his eyes and 2 1/2 feet long. Then he started coming out of the water of course I could have sworn it was 20' long. The guy assured me he was only 14'. I felt much better knowing that. That's the first one I've seen since moving here. It was pretty cool!

NO...The motor died several times while I was testing it and he forget to mention in his ad the bondo job in the bow. I did decide it's not the boat for me though. I like to move around to much when I'm on the water.

Take care,

Ed

anymore to old and its July... Neat LITTLE boat.. hmmm wonder why i sold it... lol

Dave and Trp,

Everybody tells me I'll be "Kicking" gators in no time....gulp!! The one I seen the other night had no problem instilling his authority! Not 100 yards up river was a rope swing! I wonder if the kids who put that up have all their parts?
