I scored a buttload of Herters today

A dozen GE and at least 2 dozen Buffies. All scuffed, dinged and needing renovation. Not going to be used enough to warrant burlapping. How does one fill the dings? Just waterproof putty? A couple have major material missing. GAC and Goldens?

Personally, I would just go with the burlap and be done with it. They are always going to need touch up anyway and you have a long time till next season. Besides....everyone needs a project.

I,ve had good results useing construction adhesive for hole filling on herters bodys. when chunks of foam are gone you have to put it in layers to get best results. why not restlecoat those bodys. lot quicker than burlap and really gives a hard outer shell if you use 2 coats of corncob media.

I have wrapped a lot herters decoys if they are badly dented i will fill the damaged area with polyester glazing putty from an auto parts store.
The putty dries quickly and sands easily. You can start wrapping as soon as the putty has set.

Been wrapping Herters for years.....the best way to fill dings, cracks and missing pieces is to use Great Stuff insulating foam.....once cured you can file off the excess.

If you have major holes and dings to fix just coat the hole with gorilla glue then fill the hole or dent with spray foam. Once dry just shave it down and paint

Go to Steve Sanford's site and watch his whole rejuvenation process on old Herter's birds...lots of good information right there!

Most of them look sound, I'd just repaint them and call it good, They're foam, they dent, it won't matter.
Unless you absolutely NEED a keep busy project. :)
