ID this fiberglass duck boat?

Picked this up in the twin cities last summer... no commercial markings, but I suspect it is factory made. The connection of the deck to the hull looks a little cheesy, but hopefully it holds up long enough to get my money's worth. Had been storing it upside down with the other canoes and kayaks until I recently read Bender's post (I think on another site, can't remember) about keeping fiberglass boats inside. When I turned it over this week, I noticed a litttle crazing / checking or something like that on the hull... hope it's still sound.

Thanks for any help on identifying the maker on this boat. It's nice and light and hunts / paddles well.

Possibly a Fiberdome made in WI. Ron knows his boats but this one looks a little in the light side to be a Carstens IMO

Northern Fiberglass Industries. Mlps, Minn. 1981-87. 12' x approx 3'. Call Express Composites in Minneapolis, and ask for Jim. He'd be able to tell ya exactly. I agree with Ron I think it's the Teal Model. Not the Widgeon which is identical to my 10' Boat.

I've had a couple of those. I'll try to find some Pics of my old one.

Jim old me at one point He sold 100 Boats a year from '81-'87, and He had 4-5 Models. That one was one of the most popular. I still don't think there's a ton out there. Most I've seen have the spuds. Carstens bought the company, and scrapped all the Molds from what I am told. Whether there are still some 20-30 year old molds left somewhere out there is a mystery.

Ask for Jim at Express Composites. His Daughter is still there, along with Tomas. If you speak with one of them, and tell em you're interested in Jim's Duck Boats from the 80's I'm sure they'll put you in touch with Jim. Call me if you have any other questions, I could tell ya a lot more, but I don't think I could type it all out in a coherent fashion. Lots of random crud, and junk related to the Boats, construction, ect. All from Jim's stories when I was buying materials from Him, and had my Shop in Eden Prairie a few Summers ago... - Bender

I have owned a couple for Fiberdome's and do not believe this is one of their models. It does look like an early Muddywaters skiff made in Fox Valley area. I saw them for sale at Mack's Motors south of Milwaukee a few years ago. The two piece construction is very similar to what he is doing now.

Defently not the "Outlaw" copy. They are much blunter. I have had several of the Outlaws over the years. Still have one and know of 4 others. None are similar to the pictured boat.

It's the Teal from this old Carstens Brochure. It's just from the NFI era in my opinion. Solid Gel-Coat with webbing solution on the inside, and foam identical to the ones I owned. Nice Boats. I liked mine, and only sold them because the offers were good, and I had more than I needed. Mine needed repairs, and had similar craze/cracking. After I was done they were slick...

That was the photo I was trying to put up there...the old Carstens ad. I agree with Derek on the NFI era though. The flat union between the top and bottom halves vs an overlap from the Carstens era
