If this guy gets in

Democrat is such a dirty word . I just always have been and always will be a conservative at heart . I'll agree McCain is not my idea commander in Chief but by FAR he is the best of the bunch thats in the running . Obama is so anti military that his actions in office will make national security crumble for years to come . Just when we have taken things up a notch he wants to step in and take us down two . Hillary and her health care reform that will cost us billions is gonna put alot of folks on the unemployment line in the health/life insurence industry . Lets not even get on the subject of illegals and how the liberals just love them like pets .

A traveling man, huh? Me, too. Springfield, AR Lodge #127, WM.

And while I wholeheartedly agree that politics can be a divisive issue, almost as much as religion, I think it is time for this country to seriously consider where it is headed. My personal belief is that the Democratic party holds nothing for me; I believe that my life and my actions are my choices, and the consequences are something that I will have to accept. Nobody else is responsible; freedom means that I can do as I wish, but the consequences, no matter how dire, are also mine to take. Great freedom = great responsibility. I do not believe that the government knows how to choose for me better than I can choose for myself.

I firmly believe that no matter which candidate takes the oath next January, this country has a long row to hoe. And, I am very sorry to say, we no longer have candidates who represent the best of what this country has to offer for leadership, vision, and ability. I no longer see honor among the candidates, nor conviction. I see a contest of largesse - who can give the most, rather than lead the best. I truly hate the comparison, but it is similar to the Roman Empire; people are focused on the spectacle and the bread being handed out, rather than the substance of the people and their ideas.

Perhaps I have said too much, but I do firmly believe that we have to have some fundamental changes if we are going to get back to the ideals and values that founded this country.

Right on Harry. Under Bill Clinton, we ended up with a surplus - Under Bush we have to largest deficit in History. Look at history, Dems have cleaned up Repub overspending over and over again. I would rather increase taxes than borrow money from China. Clinton's dalliances have nothing to do with the job he did as prez. I'm pulling for Hillary in hopes of a 2 fer, along with a strong military..... and most of all a prez who has brains even though she merely represents for me the best of a sorry lot.

This country needs to make a u-turn and back to the Founders credo - Gov't of the people, by the people.

PS: This web site is the greatest even if we don't all see it the same way.
You are right on Eric !
Let me preface my remarks by saying that I'm a take 'em out and hang'em conservative southern Democrat.
I was surely better off financially during the Clinton years and quite frankly I don't care where he stuck his shmeckel. I don't think the nation and economy can stand four more years of a Bush type Presidency. Never thought I'd have to say it but I think the lesser of the three evils is Hillary. I liked John Edwards best BUT NC IS STILL LIVING DOWN ANDREW JOHNSON and Reconstruction.

In our Masonic Lodge we agree not to discuss politics. Keeps things more productive. To keep this Duck related I wonder who the NRA supports in the Dem primary ? God forbid it's Barack Hussein Obama. That being said, the people on this page are the greatest and even though opinions sometimes vary, I learn a lot from all of those who take part not only about Duck boats and hunting but about life in these United States.

And as Tiny Tim once said "God bless us all"

Wow, you don't have to agree with all of his policies, but I think it is hard to question John McCain's honor. The man spent the better part of a decade in a concentration camp, 5 years of which after he declined early release because his father was an admiral. If Obama gets elected, kiss hunting and fishing goodbye.

And the first step should be term limits for all Senators, Congressmen, and 4 years for prez (Too much damage can be done in 8), RE: our current mess.

We have to take it back and the sooner the better.

Bill

As a rule, this country has shown very little discipline in ridding ourselves of career politicians who accomplish little.
Thus, the next option appears to be term limits. Agreed, the good ones also get hurt, but the damage done over time
is hard to watch. In any case we need to get back to government of the people, by the people. How we do it is of little consequence, so long as we do it.

I know I have given more than 2 cents worth but I'm VERY concerned about this country's direction.

Bill

Planet X will be passing close to earth soon, so it doesn't matter who wins anymore.

That's what I think, and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for the post my brother.
I agree with some of what you say. Lyndon Johnson said he had lost the solid south for the Democrat party for the next 100 years as Abraham Lincoln lost the south for the Publicans until recently. Just goes to show what one person can do. The last really great Pres we had IMHO was WB Harry Truman. Last Pres to be "Craft" was Gerald Ford who did a good job holding the country together after what "Tricky Dick" left behind.

As you are Now WM, I think you will enjoy next year better as PM. I have certainly enjoyed watching the fellows I put in line come along.
Got to run now as me and some of the other brethren have to work on our world domination plan.

Best,

PS PM me sometime as I'd love to visit an Arkansas Lodge especially during Duck season.

Bill Clinton was fortunate to come in on the heels of Regan and Bush1 and inherited the "peace dividend" from the victory of the cold war. I fail to see anything Clinton did other than gutting our military and CIA to show an "paperwork" surplus on the balance sheets.

jim the founders of this country were far superior minded men then those up for votes this year. i am 1/4 french-canadien and very proud of that heritage but i cant help felling crappy for being an american when i know of people that go to other countries and act like ***holes to the native people. i had a friend that was a marine served 3 tours in iraq that told me once that he, at gun point, made an iraqi man walk behind his wife and carry her stuff. as opposite as their culture seems to us when we're over there we need to be considerate. no wonder they hate us.

personally i would rather the country take an isolationist role in the world then the police role it has now. fix what mess we have left in iraq, pull out of there and let the rest of this sorry world fend for itself.

our military is so far ahead of every other country's that we can afford to cut some spending and maybe offer free health insurance like canada has (i was told). some of that money could go into finding an alt. fuel so we can stop relying on the sweet crude coming from the middle east.

what ever happened to the preds. like lincoln, wilson and fdr educated men that new how to solve problems.

I don't see that him being in a concentration camp makes him honorable. It's not like he steped up to his potential jailer and said "please hold me and let the women and children go, beat me more today instead of Bill over there, he's not doing well". He got caught in a time of war and was held against his will as many Americans have been over history. Sure I feel for him in regards to a history that was likely a very difficult one, but that doesn't automatically make him honorable. I don't think the business as usual, stay the course mentality will help our country get out of the pit we are in. I actually think his military background and mentality will get us into more trouble then we are in now.

I think across the board we have some candidates that are ALL less then qualified.

I also laugh about how many people all seem to think that IF a Dem gets into office that we are going to be handing over our guns. It's stupid! We have had many Dems in office over the years, and have yet to hand over anything, or see any major "Gun Control" legislation that has had an impact on me as a law abiding gun owner. The term "Gun Control" comes out and everyone screams about losing their guns. "Gun Control" can also mean stuff like more background checking before allowing a purchase. I have been hunting and owned a gun since I was a child. I have Rifles, shotguns, hand guns, and have yet to understand the need for an AR15 or an AK47, or Uzi. Neither would be my weapon of choice to protect my home. So when any polotitian speaks about making these guns harder to get, and increasing the regulations on who owns them, I think that's good. Have no issue with it.

If John McCain wants to show he is honorable, he will stand up and lay out a plan for the US to hand Iraq back to Iraqis. Other then that he is just another war mongering polotician risking the lives of thousands more American soldiers lives, while further ruining the US social standings around the world. Then he will have my vote, until then......I like Obama.

Oh by the way, to the guys who made the anti-american statements, study your history a little bit. Being American IS speaking out for your beliefs even if not everyone agrees with them. They built a constitution around the ideas of speaking out and standing up for what you believe to be right. Anything other then THAT is anti-american.

Oh and one other thing....the say goodbye to hunting and fishing. ??? What the f*****??? Are coming after your fishing pole too?

John McCain was shot down and taken prisoner in October of '67 and was imprisoned in the Hanoi Hilton. He was very seriously injured and received very poor treatment. In July '68 , his father was made commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater. At that time the communists offered him immediate release, but he turned it down insisting that the first GI's taken prisoner should be released first. Because of this he was subjected to severe torture, and spent another 4 years and 8 months as a POW. If his refusal to accept immediate release from that horrible situation doesn't say something about the man's character I don't know what would.

dave i couldnt agree more. i think we should have a vermonter run for president...........oh wait, yea nevermind that one didint go so well, haha

i cheered for zumbo when he stood up to bash "black" guns. if ar15's are needed to kill coyotes then someone needs some target practice. now before people go jumping down my throat, imo theres absolutely no real need for a semi automatic rifle like that to be available to the public. you can do the same sporting things with a bolt action or a less menacing looking semi.

Dave, (and Ed)

I need to respond as a point for the little debate Eric got rolling here. Let me preface by saying that I believe in the best from people on this site, especially when compared to other internet arenas. I also harbor no ill will whatsoever for any viewpoint held or expressed. I believe certain viewpoints jeopardize my values and freedoms, and believe my opinion otherwise matters....as we all like to think.LOL

Since you 'have yet to see a need for' guns like AR15s or Aks, etc. and have no problem with their regulation, I see no need for your right to type your dissent about it...So I guess I can support a candidate who's for limiting freedom of speech? I mean, just a little. There's no need to say certain words aloud, so lets just make those illegal to utter or print. Speaking out and spewing anti-American garbage are two TOTALLY different things. Yep, they have the right, but they can also reap the consequences of their ANTI-AMERICAN drivel. The same comparison can be made for layout hunting, using a 20ga as opposed to a 12ga, hunting refuges, etc. Your perceived need has no bearings on anothers rights or freedoms, period.

I'm sorry, but Obama is patently anti-American. It's a criteria for being a liberal these days.....or they 'Lieberman' you. McCain is surely not as conservative as we really need, but he's also about 10K more times qualified than Obama, especially when it comes to managing a conflict, international affairs, and even senate workings. He's actually sort of what a Democrat USED to be...back around Truman, et al. Still a better choice than either of the anti-Americans on the other ticket.

You think we should give Iraq back to the Iraqis? That's actually the plan, all along. However, what many do not realize is that there really aren't any true Iraqis (just like Palestinian Arabs). Iraq was created after the world wars by Britain as a friendly oil supplier protectorate. What we probably should do is give Iraq AWAY, in thirds. One to Turkey, one to Saudi Arabia, and one to maybe Kuwait. Each controls their turf pretty doggone well and are American allies in the region. The different factions of muslims could sort themselves out naturally. FYI: until the 40's, maybe even 60's, the entire Arab world considered Palestinians to be the Jewish rsidents of the region and called them as such.

Many of the views expressed here are proof of another one of our countries biggest threats. A lack of education.

Eddie-

With that kind of attitude towards you guns you should just move a little north.

You've missed the spirit and intent of our forefathers just as many in the this country have.

I for one am not afraid of Hillary or Obama being able to take my guns. To succeed in doing so they will have to pry them from my cold dead hands. That is why our forefathers gave us the right to bear arms. PERIOD. If you don't want a black gun or semi auto, more power to you. If you don't want me to have one you better out shoot me.

(disclaimer: don't take any of my comments as personal attacks to anyone here. Emotion and attitude are hard to covey through text, therefore it's tough to judge the exact intent of ones words when discussing this kind of crap.)
