Wow, thanks guys. I am really humbled by everyone who has such nice things to say about me and my work.
I love making decoys and am glad folks enjoy them too.
Farrukh,
Reality is while I hunt and use my own decoys most folks that buy them are putting them in collections or on the mantle. (Even though they do a great job of killing ducks.LOL)
There are alot of great carvers out there, some well known and some not so much so. Each one of the folks mentioned previously has a great following and produces nice decoys. Price is also a question and not everyone has unlimited funds.
While I could list a dozen or so guys I would collect, the best advice is to get out to shows and meet the carvers themselves. It also provides an oppurtunity to handle decoys and build a knowledge base.
Long Island Decoy Collectors has a show in Patchogue at the end of February and NJ's NJDCA Parkertown show (near Tuckerton) is at the end of March.
I just arrived home from two days in Easton MD and that show runs clear thru Sunday afternoon.
When all is said and done, educate yourself first and then buy what you like! Jode
