Illinois Goose Hunting...

Pat,do you know of any clubs that would take one -two day hunters? We are not doing that great down south of you. Thanks Brian Rippelmeyer

Pat,

There has a been a good push this past week. Just last night I was fishing off my dock. Around 5:30 I heard the first honk. 15 mintues later I'll say there had to over 1,000 Canadas honking their fool heads off not 100 yards up river from me. It was sight to be seen in the last moments of a fire red sunset.

Guys at work had a good week last week hunting the Iowa Cedar River bottoms. Birds every day they tell me...or rather rubbing it in...hehe

What no pretty honker decoys to show us? Come on Pat, how about a swimmer at least?.............Kevin

Mike - They left us too after all that snow and ice, once it melted, we saw a big reverse migration for about a week to ten days. They're coming back north. Get ready...

Best goose season I've ever had. Been absolutely hammering them. I can't believe how long our season is now...it's unreal!

Cool stuff fellows...BTW looks pretty cool there. It was 82 here today. My air conditioning is running as I type.

Just comparing Pat. We haven't had any cold down this way yet, and the bird numbers are low because of it. I would love some cold. And I grew up in Iowa, so I know what cold is too.

From what I saw on your last visit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you may be getting a little sensitive to temps in your old age. Besides, how would you know just how cold it was when you had the heaters going full blast all the time.

As I traveled through Ill North to South I should of had my shot gun lots of geese. On the way back South to North they were in different spots. If I could Hitch I would send you some of this below zero weather.

Pat, We froze up after Christmas. Last week we broke open with the flooding and melting, so I hunted the flood waters. This week the water is getting back down in the bank pretty good, but everything along the river is covered with a sheet of ice from the flooding. Went scouting last night and saw a few small groups in the area. Hopefully they are coming back, season ends Saturday. I will be out for the last day. Will be covering up with visqueen to hunt on the ice along the bank. With the high water and current we will be rigging decoys on longlines off 10 lbs. boat anchors. I have only found one brand of decoy that will ride the current and not nose dive.
