I'm usually up for trying different foods but.......

Could not agree more. My son caught a gar once, and a week later I noticed a foul smell coming from my boat. Was able to sniff it out- the smell was coming from the net we had used land the fish. Could not believe a fish could leave behind such nasty residue. Aftet that we tried hard to not catch any more gar!

I've always thought gar were pretty cool fish and I've always wondered about eating fish eggs, but I also know gar eggs are poisonous. I thought that was common knowledge in the gar spearing and bowfishing world... I guess not.
My BIL is headed to Greers Ferry tomorrow so I sent the article to him just in case he had any plans on eating gar eggs. :-)

But if you wanted to Pete, head over to Mud Lake by Lake Mills and you can catch all you want. Used to fish there as a kid and always caught several of them, nasty looking fish.

I will Andrew. As soon as the water warms up a bit I'll be over there to shoot some carp and maybe a gar. Don't remember ever arrowing a gar before.

Now I am wondering what those three fishermen will do the next time they hook a gar? An interesting story. Thanks for sharing that, Pete.
