IN-VADM Decoys - ever hear of them?

I know that work bench.... that is John Bourbon's!

I have a pair of Whistler Flatties he did for me... they ride the water nice, and both fit together in a single slot in the bag.... think I need to make up a bunch with foam and burlap for a diver rig of Cans and Bluebills, coule do a buch of long lines in small space and weight....

I am curious how these "flatties" ride in big water with a 2-3 foot chop. I mean the Herter's 72's ride very fine, don't know how these would do.

They float real nice. I've never had one turn over on me. I started making them out of 2X construction grade planks, and they worked fine. Lately I have been using 2" thick slabs left over from the 6"x8" timbers I use in making full thickness decoys. I've made buffies, whistlers, bluebills, redheads, cans and common merg flatties.

Its true they don't need a keel. They float right as is. At the moment I have 2 unpainted buffie flatties in the shop awaiting painting and an owner. These are the 2" cedar versions. They could be yours for $25 each or $45 for the pair plus shipping. Since they are unpainted, you could specify a drake and hen or 2 of a kind.

PS, its kind of neat to see someone saved a picture of my work bench...

Paul,

They make excellent filler decoys or even hunted by themselves...Haven't read through all of the replies but I believe the block name is "Pancakes"...My hunting partner Steve McCullough has them in his rig...I have hunted many of seasons with those birds both in a large spread and by themselves in two long lines out of my BBSB...They make excellent teaser lines which are extended much beyond shotgun range to lead the birds into the main hole or spread within shotgun range...I recommend if you find more of the foamers buy as many as possible....You will not go wrong...Just recoat the foamers with an epoxy or thinned glue to incase the foam...Any foam left out will break off after heavy hunting use...Here is a close view out of MLB layout...

Matthew,

I followed Rex Ruth's recommendation of using concrete filled PVC pipe on my EPS divers. Work well for me. I didn't have to cap and by keeping the concrete in a bit I was able to drill the pipe at the ends for line attachment. Two additional holes drilled with a masonry bit and c-snk'd to attach the keel to the decoy.

Not claiming it's the best but it has worked well.
