Another new guy here so I figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Chris Toy and I live in western PA. My main interests anymore are duck hunting and decoy carving. I started carving about three years ago, but still don't have a lot of birds under my belt. I carve hollow wooden decoys, mostly cedar, and am getting ready to start a journey in to the world of oil painting. Here is a shot of my most recent bird, not quite finished but should be by tonight. First attempt at a hen puddle duck.

I know carvers always talk about "personal style".....clearly with the carved tape spool for a keel you have developed yours.......

Seriously nicely done and happy to have you on the site...

Welcome aboard Chris,

Nice thing about your unique keel, is that your decoys will be easily recognized by collectors 100 years from now. :>) :>)

Welcome aboard, You say you only have a few birds under your belt. you deffinatly have the talent. painting has always been my kriptonite. I love making dust but I'd rather have a colonosky then paint. Nice lookin bird you have both aspects of carving down

Phil, I finished carving this one over a year ago, just finally worked up the courage to paint it. What you see is probably the fifth coat of paint on this bird. I am fairly happy with the way it turned out but definitely see room for improvement. Every bird I paint I learn a few more things, but I definitely feel painting is my biggest weakness.
