As some of you know, I was fortunate to get a pup from Al Hansen (Habi's most recent litter). Drake was flown from Albuquerque NM to Calgary Alberta on November 9 at the age of 8 weeks. He has been adapting well and we are enjoying our little imp. He is a bit of a handful with a mischievous streak but is also very smart and watches and takes everything in. Holly was doing some dummy retrieves this morning and he sat very still and watched the routine. You could see the wheels turning. Fortunately he likes the snow as he will see lots of it over the next 6 months. (The shirtsleeve photos were taken last weekend when we experienced a chinook. That is actually water on top of the ice on the pond.)
Having two dogs in the house has been entertaining at times but Drake does not back down. Holly is going to have her paws full in few months.
Here are a few pictures from the last couple of weeks.
Drake knows that is Holly's leash and that makes it fair game.
He also knows how to tell us it is time to go out.
His favorite place to hang out is under the piano because by the time we get under there to catch him he is gone. If he can manage a breakout this is where you will find him.
It took about 2 hours for him to figure out how to empty the treat ball. Instead of rolling it around he just positions it right and then moves it back and forth while the treats spill out.
The neighborhood kids are in love. Although we allow them to play with Holly, we have decided they will not be playing with Drake although they can hold the leash while we are with them. Holly is a very gentle dog with kids.
Holly is really good with Drake. When she has had enough she puts him in his place. I have seen her pin some much larger dogs than her when they take a run at her but she really softens it up for the little guy.
"Holly's nose looks like more fun than this ball."
Running with the big dog does tire the pup out. Here they are enjoying a moment on the couch. Already spoiled!
