Is the ASPCA equally as bad as HSUS ?

Some 'friends' of mine were talking about supporting ASPCA . . . are they super anti-hunting, or do they actually do respectable things?

Thanks for any info you might have. (I googled ASPCA to see if I could find any dirt but nothing came up.)

Thanks,

NR

Digging into the website at http://www.aspca.org/about-us/policy-positions/hunting.html I found this:
Hunting

Because there is no guarantee that wildlife taken in sport hunting will be killed outright or spared the distress of pursuit and possible wounding and escape, the ASPCA is opposed to hunting animals for sport, even if the animals killed in this way are subsequently consumed. The ASPCA does recognize that wildlife management may be necessary in situations where animal and human interests collide, but urges that management strategies be nonlethal wherever possible and never include avoidable suffering or distress.

I don't think they are as militant as HSUS, but still anti hunting. The lady that runs the local chapter here is not an anti, but I know a lot (most) of the members are. I know a few guys who have adopted dogs from them that turned out to be good gun dogs though.

Add "animal rights" or "anti hunting" to aspca and you will come up with dirt. They are anti trapping and it seems anti hunting. During the 90's the president of the aspca was strongly against eating meat and pushed the organization that direction.

I think a lot of groups just do the pet adoptions for PR so they can raise money to fight people who don't think animals are people too. There are some local independent groups out there if you look but if they have aspca or hsus connections you can bet they are animal rights advocates. Many local humane societies are not connected to hsus.

Do not confuse the local humane societies with the HSUS. Most locals understand but the national is a BAD group, be careful of them. They are anti.
