Is there something going on we don't know about... NDR

I live in NE Ohio, just East of Ravenna, quite near "Camp Ravenna", (formerly the Ravenna Arsenal), a multi-service Military training and logistics site. In fact, my property is about 150 yards from the SW corner fence.

Usually it's relatively quite around here, aside from the occasional few gunshots or military plane flying overhead. And that usually happens more towards the middle of the site, far from the rural residential areas that surround the property

But as of late, the place has been booming! Literally! We commonly get C-130 fly overs, but two nights ago, we had a C-130 fly over our house over and over again, barely tree-top level and climbing and banking hard away from the site. Then, and actually the same time we could hear copters all over the area. My daughter lives a half mile away, about the same distance away from the fence, and she has been seeing Hum-V's and what she described as "tanks" driving around her area. Add in the periods of automatic machine gun fire, the usual 3 shot burst of perhaps M-16's, the quick firing bursts of 30 cal. and authoritative "rap-rap-rap" of 50 cal. stuff. Toss in an occasional grenade or mortar here and there, and we feel as though we're in a war zone. Pretty close to us, any time of the day too. I do have to add though, I know from a VERY reliable source, the shots fired at this end are blanks, I may take comfort in knowing that, but that doesn't diminish the amount of noise we hear.

While so far, it hasn't been what I call "annoying" it is certainly noticeable. Being somewhat interested, I do have to admit, I find it all a bit entertaining, but I'm sure there are some folks around these parts who may find it downright annoying. Especially early in the morning, or late at night. Point is- it seems to be getting busier and busier in there.

Just wonder...

Wonder if there is a Guard unit doing annual training? It is a NG training base.

I've been in their on controlled deer hunt days when they are that busy. Pretty interesting to be hunting with automatic fire a few hundred yards away.

Up here we get a brief public notice that the adjacent training grounds will be in use for what ever time period and to expect the noise. It is part of the mandate from the State and City to publish the noise notice. And the Army has a good PR system here in Anchorage.

Your local governments may not have a regulation requiring it.

And for the record a Ma Deuce popping off from a Stryker at 2am on a wednesday morning sucks even if its over a mile away. Low level C17 flights are fun too.

Guess most importantly we all need to remember that the sounds of all those helicopters, cargo planes and automatic weapons fires is the sound of men & women in uniform protecting our country and our freedoms.
