Is this a pond box or a very small boat....

Found this on another site and thought it was neat. It has oarlocks but appears somewhat small. I think I read it was at the Tuckerton show recently. Anybody see this that was there?

Looks to be about 8' or so. I would call it a pond box. Then again pond boxes were usually flat bottomed. I would rather have that one................Kevin

Jim,

Thanks for the history lesson. These are cool looking. I have a copy of the pond box plans that were on the NJ site some years ago but never seen a plan on these. Do you know if one exists or are these kind of hand me down things. I'd sure like to see how the bow comes together with the deck.

Pat,

I'm like you, I love these things. We don't see much of this stuff. If your looking for history about waterfowl hunting the Illinois or Mississippi Rivers. Folklore you're likely to find more info on is double ended sneak boats and scullers and a lot of blind hunting.

I took those pics 2 years ago at the Tuckerton show. A man from Medford area of NJ was making them at the time. It was a nice pond box. They looked like they would tow really nice.

I like that boat some times it's all you need.

Now I would to see Harker in it with a twenty five horse on it. I would drive all the way to Indiana to take pictures and even buy lumber from him. hee hee

Ed - I hunt out of a double ender. My great grandpa did too! I have a picture I'll post up of him in one back in the 20's. I also had at one time a double ender that Virgil Lashbrook made I used to hunt out of. I'll see if I can dig up a picture on it.

I appreciate your passion for waterfowling history. I share it... God bless! Pat

If anyone knows of plans for one of these please let me know. This is pretty much exactly what I've been looking for, and to use it in the same manner and place as originally used. I'm no guide but they would be nice to have when you have an extra guy or two along. I was just planning on downsizing BBSB plans. I guess at 8' you could drop some of the supports and simplify it a bit.

Hey Pat,

Yeah I'd like to see those. Seems I recall reading something about a guy out of Pekin named Lashbrook. Don't remember whee though.

Gene,

I struck up a deal with a guy for a copy of this plan. I thought I'd offer copies for the cost of shipping and handling if anyone is interested. Although not a real BBSB, this is suppose to be a poormans plywood version. The blue print is suppose to be from 1941. Might be something you could use. I should have the plan in a couple of weeks.

Put me down for a copy of those plans as well!!!

Every bit of reference helps....thankya!

I saw that boat with the plans and all, and almost bid on it, just for the plans. But then I'd be divorced, and wouldn't have the boat anyway! So, I guess everything works out for the best.

I'd be interested in the plans as well. I've been looking for a small craft that I could row into shallow bodies of water, something that is light, simple, easy to make.

Ed ,

Nice boat i would like a set of prints myself . how wide is it ? I am looking for something for the small rivers around here , that can hold a dog and myself with a few dekes . Thanks

Ed,
You did what I was kicking myself for not doing! Those are the plans for that boat in Jenks, Oklahoma, I think. Appears someone bought the boat for $500 w/trailer, spray shield and all the rest. Quite a deal if you ask me. Can you put me down for a copy of those plans as well? thks/cc

I'd like a copy of the plywood plans as well. thanks.
Are there many plywood boats out there ? I'd like to see pictures
of a few !

Rick,

From the way I hear she shoots, divorce wouldn't be what I'd be afraid of...hehe

PM me your address and I'll be in touch when I get the plans. Oh the print I'm getting is a black and white copy. They're easier to read and won't fade like a blue print.
