On a whim I applied for a Swan permit this season and was awarded one! I have not for many years as we can't hunt them where I normally hunt, though we do see some on occasion. To hunt them I will need to go about 20 miles south, into the next county south of me or further.

I can try to book with an outfitter for a day, but if I can borrow, buy or make a few decoys I can freelance too. I have one plastic swan decoy, so I suppose I can noodle out a pattern for some pink foam, but thought maybe someone has some stashed away, or has a pattern to work from?

Good morning, Dave~

re-painting Herter's Model 92 Canadas would be a safe bet.

Here are some aids if you make your own. This pattern is for my half-size Preener:

Here is a nice profile by David Sibley:

Some sketches I did a couple of years back for someone here who wanted to make foamers:

Of course, if I made foamers I would coat them with epoxy + ground walnut shells to toughen the skin.

BTW: Dock foam seems much tougher than insulation foam boards - if you can scrounge some from the wrack line. I'll give you some when you stop by on your Champlain trip.

All the best,

SJS
