Well... I am almost ready for the 2015 season...
This arrived today.. but it is a little tight... will it stretch? I am in need of a haircut too....

NO.....bt it will squeeze your head till it pops like one of those watermelons with about a hundred rubber bands on it.....get the POP on video for us....

Steve

Filson hats DO NOT stretch. If anything they get tighter, as how should I say - yer head gets "rounder". I own a few old ones that I have "altered" to fit my older noggin'.

well.... I question their ability to read a tape measure then!!!! (sizing chart)

I will have to see how it fits after a hair cut....

Phil, I have the same hat, and wish it was a tad larger, and fit over my head more than just on it. After it has softened up a couple seasons it feels just fine. I ordered mine on-line because there was no-one nearby that stocked them. Finally last season I stopped at a place in Vermont that I knew carried Filson stuff..... they had only a couple of the waterfowl hats, and only really big Vermonter sized! But I found a couple of the same hat in orange to compare for size... tried a couple all marked Large, that fit different. So maybe there is different manufacturing sites or IDK.

Good choice, those Filson hats are like helmets....I have had mine for 3 seasons now and it's barely getting broken in! Best waterfowling hat on the planet in my opinion.....

Sweet hat! I'll be ordering soon. I also wanted to get the filson waterfowl sweater but can't seem to find one. Anyone know if they are still offering it anywhere?

THE XL just arrived.... I am sooo freaking disappointed. It is as tight as the L was. I measured the noggin at 23"... that is the top end of the L.... an XL is supposed to fit a 23 1/2"-23 7/8".... I am very much questioning Filson QC.... :(

Stormy Kromer has a waterfowling hat that I will be ordering soon. I find no fault with their hats ever, other than I do not have one of every hat they make. Even after a soaking, follow their directions on how to let the hat dry, and it does not shrink and fits like it did new.

Phil... look on E-Bay for "Hat jack", or "Hat stretcher".
You can easily make one - or just buy one and have it. I keep a couple I made in my western straw hats to keep them fined "tuned"....
Keep the XL and use the hat jack - Later, it will come in handy after it gets wet and wants to shrink up on you.

I feel your pain phil. I order my hats from big head hats.com. If not they end up in the bay after they shoot off the top of my head.

I tried a large locally and found it too tight. Ended up ordering an XL from them and that one is too stinking big. I love the hat, but I don't wear it too often since I feel like a goombah when I do. I may look into one of the Stormy Kromers for the coming season as well.

Vince - do you have a link? I looked and did not see a hat specifically indicated for waterfowling.
Thanks

Hank - I don't have a link, but I did see it in a few of the many catalogs for waterfowl hunting that should be arriving soon. Also saw it on a few websites, but can't recall a specific one at this time. Gonna have to start digging again. Hopefully LL Bean will offer it this season.
