Personally, I like an angry Northwest wind over the Northeast, but all of it looks good.

About the same forecast here in Northeast Ohio for our second split opener on Saturday.

Good luck and stay safe!

Thanks, Jon !

This is shaping up to be a day like the day before season closed last year. I was literally standing there with over an inch of rain water in the pockets of my hunting coat ! Ducks were everywhere ! The next day it turned off bitter cold. I went that day too but my buddy cancelled out on me so I was hunting from the shore. Ducks were funneling out of the sky like a tornado. It was a sight to behold !

Good Luck ! Be Safe !

How about all that rain ?!?
I slept in on Saturday because I didn't want to mess with the circus in the rain. It never rained a drop, snow only...

The general report around here is that the fields were good, water was spotty.

How'd you do?

I'd like to report that my position was overrun with kamikaze ducks making their final flight; however, that was not the case.

I was the first boat at the ramp around 5:30 a.m. The rain had not started yet. It didn't start raining until I was launched and under way. The rain was light but steady. I could feel the temperature steadily dropping throughout the morning. The rain turned to sleet, then to all snow. It was a heavy wet snow that stacked up quickly. With at least 1 inch of snow piled up on the back of the decoys, I decided that the take out at the boat ramp was going to be a white knuckle experience at best with no 4 wheel drive and I called it a day.

I got to the boat ramp to find it as I feared, snow covered and slick ! I slid backwards down the ramp, with the brakes applied. I was confident I'd stop when I got to the water since there was no snow or ice under the water ! Thankfully, I was right. I got some help from another hunter in waders getting my boat loaded. I was able to pull my boat out with minimal slipping and sliding up the ramp. I did give a sigh of relief when I got to level ground........

The snow part of the storm hit about 4 to 6 hours earlier than predicted. I really thought the birds would arrive ahead of the storm, or at least fly in with the storm. This was not the case. I saw very few birds actually. I never had a single bird look at the decoys.

I'm on vacation all week. I'm going to give it another go this afternoon or tomorrow.
