Thanks, Brad. When that time comes let me know. Right now I am hoping that my trail dries out so that I can get to the Rio Grande. I haven't been able to get to my favorite spot yet. Darn it. Just before the season opened I built a couple of blinds but then it rained for 4 days. The Rio jumped up to 3000 cfs from 10 cfs quickly and now I am wondering if the blinds are still there.

I appreciated the compliments, Andy. The Mexican ducks are darker than hen mallards. They look a lot like the Mottle ducks. Good to hear about your past also. I can still remember the pool halls and taverns being jammed with hunters on Friday night prior to our opener in Minnesota. As a kid back in the mid 50s I loved listening to all the stories that were told.

Thanks, Greg. I am very proud of this 2 year old pup. He is developing into a good retriever. Yesterday, Thursday, was a very slow day but he stayed in the blind with me from 6:10AM, which was 45 minutes before the opener until 9:30. He sits patiently and scans the sky. Well twice I gave him a large milk bone so that trance was broken.

I know I'm a little behind you with only 33 seasons but I bet even at 61 those moments before legal time feels the same. Don't you just love the whole season before you and all that anticipation bottled up into 1 final minute. I can understand why dogs give us dirty looks when those dark duck silhouettes whistle overhead.

It looks like you are keeping Chip busy and happy.

Tim, you nailed it perfectly. I feel so sorry for hunters who don't hesitate in shooting 10 to 12 minutes early. In fact, for the guys who say, What the heck" and let it fly 3 minutes early, it is a shame. They have no idea of what part of the mystique of duck hunting is until they can control the one rule about duck hunting. Wait until the time on your cell phone says that it is now legal to shoot.

I had to laugh when you talked about the dirty looks from dogs because it is so true. On the second day of the season which was this past Wednesday I was shooting very poorly. Without hesitation, Chip gave out a loud high pitched cry of dismay when I missed yet another duck. It was comical but I understood his frustration.
