It Seems Like Internet Forums are Dying

I find this discussion interesting. I enjoy reading commentary on a couple of forums that interest me and where I feel that there is respectful discourse. They are this forum and the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association forum. I must admit though that I am primarily a "lurker", because I have always felt uncomfortable communicating with nameless (not here on Duckboats.....kudos for that) and faceless people and exposing my thoughts to the "masses". If I do post however, it is on one of these two forums where I feel somewhat comfortable doing so. And no Facebook.

My how communication in our society has changed!

Over the past ten years internet forums I read/participate in have changed dramatically, except this one. Some of the names change over time but, the atmosphere stays pretty much the same.

I came across another hunting site that has robust forums and good info: accuratereloading.com It is owned run by a gentleman from the UAE. There is no advertising and free speech allowed. almost to a fault.

Having moved thousands of miles away, I use Facebook to keep in touch with family and very close friends and I do have a comment about the commercialization of Facebook. I have a friend who I have hunted with a few times who has become a rep for a large national product manufacturer. I became flooded with shares and testimonials about products I cared nothing for and it became so annoying that I dropped the friend. Profanity, sexual comments, extreme polical rants and other nonsense will get you dropped as well. One of the great things about Facebook is I get to manage the content. (Love mlBob's page btw).

I too agree about how the forums have changed over the years i used to use them a lot to learn about duck hunting but now those same forums are dead, until I found this one. I don't comment a lot mainly read, but face book I do use for family and friends but the hunting pages are a joke except for one private group I am part of.

Erick. it is true many of the sites related to our sport, Boats, carving, etc are dying off. Your site is one of the best ,I enjoy it very much.Keep up the good work.
I wish you & your family & the rest of our Fraternity the best of the Holiday Season,& have a good enjoyable rest of the Hunting season.

Dedicated FB hater here. I'll be a foolish businessman all day long if I don't have to be attached to my stupid phone 24 hours a day. I despise FB, twitter and all of the other new social media outlets. I want nothing to do with any of them, they have collaboratively turned society into a mass of mindless drones. Yes, I have a cell phone but only because I have to communicate to some extent. And I do prefer a phone call over texting...another modern annoyance to me.

North Bay Game calls actually has a FB page and a twitter page. ONLY because of two individuals that were working for me at the time thought it would be a great idea. They handled the accounts and for all I know they're both out there bashing the business through them now. Neither of them work for me any longer and I don't have the password for either account, otherwise I'd shut both of them down. Does anybody know how to do that without a password?

I'm not offended by Tony or Jeff either. I'm not making calls to make a living off of them. If I were I would have to concede and follow what makes a business successful in this modern world. I have enough business to keep me happy and busy, sometimes busier than I'd like. I don't want to open up the doors for more business to come through. I like to hunt, trap and climb. If I can't tear myself away from a phone long enough to do those things what's the point.

Thanks for keeping Duckboats the way it is. It's a great site and one of the few that I frequent daily.

I've always in the past used this forum as an example to others experiencing trolls & spamming.

If one is "required" to use their real names instead of a "handle", they are more mature about their post & have to "own what they say!!!"

This forum is always a pleasure to come back to due to the lack of BS that seems to occur elsewhere.

What amazes me the most is the backlash I've gotten when I suggested using real names.
