It's still winter up there...

We had a great trip to the Adirondacks and managed to summit four peaks on Thursday and Friday: Porter, Cascade, Tabletop and Phelps. We were worried about reaching the summits and not having a view due to low cloud cover and intermittent snow, but we really lucked out and got some spectacular views...and a LOT of excercise!

And a spruce trap Tori lured me into...very funny.

A snow squall moved in on us while we were on top of Phelps Mountain...shortly after it cleared up a little bit and this flock of geese was spotted heading north. There, that makes this duck related or at least waterfowl related...

Good times...can't wait to go back after turkey season...Thanks for looking,

Looks like a real good time Steve! What a way to spend time with your daughter too!

My Wife and I like to hike on our vacations. Never been to the Adirondaks, but we've been on a lot of other trails in many different states.

We usually end up coming home to get some rest!

Thanks for sharing!

What a great trip. I sure enjoyed the pictures, Steve. I, too, enjoy being able to see the different part of our continent. Nothing wrong with "lots of exercise".

Thanks Jon, Bob and Al...I could definitely benefit from excercise before our next trip up in May. We plan to do 5 peaks on that trip including the states highest - Mt. Marcy at 5344'. That will be a doozy with the others tacked on. In fact, we passed a group on the way out that had done Marcy earlier that day and one of them was all but crawling back to his vehicle.

Sure wish my other kids would go on one of these trips. I've climbed 11 of the 4000 footers now and my daughter has climbed 7, the rest of the family hasn't even been to the Adirondacks yet. They just don't know what they're missing. Oh well, one is better than none.

Steve, I was most interested when you talked about climbing the 4,000+' mountains. Where I set up my decoys on the Rio Grande is at 4,600'.

And I got a headache and couldn't breath very well at the top of Pikes Peak which is roughly 10,000 ft higher. No I didn't climb...hehe

Steve,

My son and I just had a talked about maybe taking a vacation this summer to the Adirondacks when we were in Brooklyn. Seems he has access to a cabin.

Beautiful pictures by the way. Thanks for sharing.

I'd wager it's a much easier route to get to your honey hole Al...That's pretty interesting though.

Ed...You guys will love it up there. If your son has access to a cabin that makes it that much better.

Great pics Steve! Climbing all those peaks is a great accomplishment for the two of you.

My wife's cousin climbed one of them this weekend and he also said the snow was still quite deep up there.

20's and fresh snow here this morning has me flustered. Just want a few days of nice weather before the beaver season closes this Sunday. Well at least they haven't started biting each other yet.

You picked a nice weekend to do it. Yesterday a front blew in, mid-teens ,30 mph winds. Table top has a beautiful panoramic view when the snow is deep enough and the entire summit is one big spruce trap:) Back in the day the trailess peaks had cannister's you had to locate and sign if you wanted your 46er badge, finding those in deep snow wasn't easy. Don't forget to climb McNaughton, it is over 4000 ft but isn't included in the orginal 46 over 4000 .
Mud season is upon us now ,I have to cross the ice to get to the boat house i am repairing,3 more weeks to iceout and then trout fishing.

We give our recommendations for duck/goose seasons this week can't wait till Sept.
