It's Time!

Well its that time of year for me to begin prepping my moist soil marsh for the upcoming season. Time to start the slow drawn down of the water, time to get the tractor and bush hog out of storage, time to cut up and remove all the trees which either blew over or floated into the marsh, time to begin spot spraying the millions of soft maples which are emerging, time to mow/maintain the levee, time to pump out the pit, and if time allows may even try to plant a two acre trial food plot this season. This is my 20th year of owning my own waterfowl property and wouldn't trade it and all the work on it for the world. Oh the memories that endlessly flood my mind every day that I am down there doing the work! What a wonderful time of the year! It's TIME!!

Same here. We start prepping food plots next weekend. We've already been working on getting water off the land and transplanted some trees and button bush. I need to check on them.

Good times. We pulled water 45 days ago and just did an irrigation. Won't touch ours now til July when we will see what needs to be disced or mowed. The have a work day in September where we clean blinds, cut a bunch of tules and tie in budles for camo, put out 1,000 decoys and turn the water on a few days later. Can't wait for fall.

Early October I will begin brushing up the skid blinds and layout boat blinds. Most likely wont get water until early December as have to rely on either Mother Nature or the Army Corp of Engineers to release water. We dont use a permanent spread as hunt out of the layout boats most of the time.

Tough for me to release much water right now unfortunately as the Army Corp is releasing lots of water from the Lake trying to get it down to summer pool stage(severe floods this spring) and thus keeping the river at bank full here.
