Dave,
I was in Saxia Va one day and saw the most amazing retrieves ever.
There was an old Waterman there who's dog was shot in the face and Blinded by another hunter.
This old boy was 100% blind.
Yet he could retrieve a piece of PVC pipe out of the Phragmities 100% of the time.
As a Physical Therapist is see awesome displays of adaptation every day.
My best friend and constant Duck Hunting Buddy is "100%" disabled(according to the VA) and yet we have progressed from Handicapped Blinds to hunting flooded timber, off shore blinds and rock jetties for Sea Ducks, Island Brant Hunting, and Open Water Diver Action.
Don't count Jack out yet.
I'll be pulling for you guys.
Dave,
I'm so glad to see your buddy home and resting. They amaze me all the time. Like I said before, he will let you know whay comes next. The very best of luck to you both.
Jack is going to adapt and overcome. He isn't the first canine amputee and he won't be the last. Give him a bisquit for me (for the next 365 days) because I have hope for Jack that he will again join you in the marsh. If you train for it, he will do it. I'm so happy you have your boy back home with you.
Dave
Im glad to see Jack back home and came through surgery ok and he is resting now, when it comes to love of dogs you are a man of my own heart so I know Jack has got the support, so before you know it mate, he going to be back in that chuck Huff with you on those early hunts.

Glad to see you have Jack back at home and he's resting comfortabley. Friends of ours had a lab that lost his front leg from a car. A year after you wouldnt know anything was different about him ... he would outrun any dog in the neighborhood. He always acted like he had something to prove to the other dogs. You obviously havent given up on Jack so I'm sure he wont give up on you.
Good deal Dave! Keep him thin and he will do great..... I am surprised the vet didnt remove it higher. I would be interested to know if he uses it at all over time or if he has any problems with it....
Good to know that your member of the family is back home and safe. As has been mentioned, it will take some time but before you know it, Jack will be ambling around the place with you and your wife just shaking your heads in amazement wondering how he can do that so easily. Thanks for keeping us in touch.

Dave,
I'd be willing to bet that you two have plenty more time together. Maybe not all day hunts of that tough an outing, but he'll get up and be with you. You got him back, what a blessing.
Thanks for all your prayers and good thoughts. Jack is showing progress already. He is as wobbly as a newborn colt but does manage to get from point a to point b. Going up steps is better than going down. The really good thing to report is that he still enjoys his belly being rubbed and his "tail wagger" is fully functional. He gets his meds wrapped in cheese and I think he is just fine with expecting a cheesy treat when I get home from work each day.
Very sorry to hear about your pups injury. I'm glad to see he made it through the surgery ok. I wish him the best of luck healing and adapting. Good luck.
