Very calm and warm morning (again). Hunted from a shore blind today with my friends Kevin and Mike and had the usual mallards fly out at first light. Scratched a mallard drake and watched him fly deep back into a cove. We figured he was just wounded and a retieve was out of the question without a boat today. Besides, the cove goes back a long way and we weren't even sure if he was hit. An hour later we spot something on the far bank floating along and we ID it as a drake mallard with the binoculars. I send KC on a LONG blind retrieve but he just can't get an eye on it. We try everything from hands signals to throwing rocks. We give up and after 30 minutes we sent Mike's chocolate lab (Jackson) after it and soon he had a bee line to the bird. About 120+ yards water retrieve each way. WOW! Flock of mallards tried to sneak in from behind and Kevin and I dropped a pair. Three buffies would come in an hour later and finish out the morning by dropping one. Great day, great hunt. Sent some pics to Huntin Dave to post for me. James kept his head down and held very still for all of the working birds. Nice job James and Happy New Year!

Way to go James!

Sounds like you had a great day Dave! I'm starting to love those little butterballs more and more each time I go out!

Thanks Huntin Dave for posting the pics up for me. In the blind is Kevin and Mike and my lab KC and Mike's chocolate lab, Jackson. I took video of Jackson getting the retrieve today because EVERY photo I take of him he is sleeping. I never seen a dog so layed back at 2 years old.
