Jason,

Alan C. did a nice article about you in today's Huntsville Times (which I am sure you know about). If you don't have access to a paper, I would be glad to send you one if you will pm me your mailing address.

It was a good story. Hope all is well with you.

Jeff

"I've never gotten one back for repair".....thats because he was here, in my garage, ,when he dropped a brand new, hadn't even been in the water yet, Harlequin that he brought out and snapped its bill off....didn't have to go back with him since he was here to fix it himself.....

And having hunted with him several times now I have to ask...."how come he never lets ducks land and swim around in the decoys when I'm with him"?.....

But seriously.....congratulations on the article Jason although I'm sure that evey Alabamian will be pissed that some of those damned sorry wannabe duckmen from Georgia will read the article and know where all the good spots in Alabama are because they named the lake you hunt in the article......you should be taken out behind the decoy carving set and whupped for throwing that kind of "top secret information" out for public consumption......

Steve

I have not seen the article. I am about to look at the online version. Someone save me a couple of copies. I will not be sending one to Sutton since he just rolled me under the bus. I think he ended up fixing that one on his own. I have learned this year that there is no such thing as a secret hunting spot. I still may get "whupped" for speaking a lakes name.
Jason

but thats just because after you broke the bill, (did I mention it was before the decoy had ever even been used?), you told me "you fix it....I've never had one returned for work and I'm not going to start now"...

Guess I should have expected that from a guy that spreads the names of "secret spots" on newspapers without regard to the consequences to his "Alabama Brethren".....

Steve

I took my neighbors kids hunting opening day. I had one of them set the mallard decoys for me. I asked, " did you get them all out?' He says all but one. I had an oldy in the bag that the bill had been off of for several years. He would not put it out because the bill was off of it. I told him that it would not talk about secret spots. Guess I should of listened to the decoy. Here is a picture of how I fixed it so the neighbors would get it out of the bag for the next hunt. The coot is from an unmentioned west coast carver. These repairs have become two of my favorite decoys in the rig. The mallard decoy is about 8 years old.

I like the part of the article where Alan tells how much Jason gets for his decoys. Boy, Jason is out of touch. Why spend $125 when you can get them online at alducks for $10 :)

Nice article Jason. Congratulations.

A close friend of mine tried to get them cheaper than that over there. nGive me a call when you get a chance this week.

Whatta ya know... Mr. Cassat comes out of hiding... and he's still a smart-ellic :)
I can't say much, I haven't posted much the past year and half or so either as I've turned into a casual lurker.

he'd look good with the pirate Scoter that Paul Gery did for me several years ago....might just have to add a patch to one of the ones I have from that "undisclosed carver"......

Love the Mallard bill.....no wonder people pay you to teach them to make decoys.....

HEY...been meaning to ask....seen any Hobbits on the lake this season?

Steve

Steve... I can tell you he had one positive sighting on the opening weekend. However, times have been tough in the Shire and I'm going to need Gandalf to return from Mordor with the latest and greatest back treatment to chase ducks again this year. I've been on the water so little that I haven't been able to complain about out-of-staters, skybusters, litterbugs, or kids shooting seagulls and commorants. In other words, it's been a pretty good season.

I would have thought that Hobbits would have more trouble with their feet than with their backs but that just shows what I know about Hobbits......

I told the story about meeting Frodo to a good friend just the other day...their comment...."I wanna see a picture before I believe it was actually Frodo".....so next time we bump into each other in a secret spot in Alabama we will need to take some photos.....

Good luck on the back....

Steve

Hey, could somebody save me a copy of the article? I'd like to see what the local press is saying about Jason. Hope he got in plugs for the forum and for our show.......... (Didn't see the link. Thanks, Kyle)

Who's going to Westlake?
