Jim Schmiedlin scaup-early years

Love that content side-head preener drake!

Interesting to note the slight changes in the head style on that group of scaup in the center photo, particularly the variation in the two hens.

Pat, that is how I was taught initially to set-up longlines only we arrayed them on layers of canvas tarp folded accordian style in the front of an old fiberglass tri-hull rigged with tennis netting with died pieces of burlap from discarded grain sacks I picked-up at the feed mill in Pickford. My hunting partners were a pair of lawyers in the Soo at the time. We had several BBQ work-bees each early fall to get the rig updated, repaired and cleaned. Everything worked smoothly, with the exception of that Force outboard Tony owned. It ate more starting fluid than gas when the weather got cold.
