I have 2 cozen of them coming for Speckled Fajita making. Or maybe some Speckled Quail con Chili Verde?

Yesterday the 12 Jumbo Pheasant eggs I ordered came in the mail. The guy I got them from is teh same guy I got the 26 regular Ringnecks eggs from. He's a nice guy that lives in Green Bay, WI. and he and his wife just had a baby and he was a few days late in getting my order out. When I opened the box of 12 Jumbo eggs....there was a note saying that because he was a bit tardy in shipping them he had added a couple extra eggs at no cost.

Well, the box of 12 turned out to be THRIRTY Jumbo eggs!

These things are as big as chicken eggs.

I had to order another incubator as the ones I have are all full. I've got the flight pen ready for the top netting. Mac called today and said he'd be over this weekend to help get the top netting on.

I'm also building some temporary brooder pens up at the shop for the birds that will start hatching on July 12th.

So, you better get that "pair of silver wings" for your tunic and find that Sopwith Camel for your flight this fall!

Dave,
I vote for Speckled Quail Kabobs!

I am supprised the eggs aren't speckled... where do they get the spots form?

Seriously, those are going to be neat birds to raise!

Will definitely be approaching from down wind when I get a whif of them in yer old dutch oven. How soon you figure it will take to get them to carvin' size? BCCL

Nothing wrong with quail kabobs, they are good too. The Mexican Speckled Quail are a south of the border sub-species of Bobwhite and as far as I know their eggs are white juct like bobwhite eggs are.

The eggs in my post to Joe are Pheasant eggs and these particular eggs are from a breed of Ringnecks called Jumbo's that grow to as much as 7 pounds in the adult males. I want to raise some for eating.

Best,
Dave

and some are even good shots too! Judy and I worked until 9pm this eveing getting the flight pen ready for the roof netting job this weekend. I can't wait to get some photo's of the pen full of pheasants. I called a friend of mine who is a pretty good carpenter and made him an offer he could not refuse.........help me build my outdoor pens in exchange for shooting pheasants this fall.............he accepted the deal in a hurry!

Thanks,

Dave

Most game bird eggs take 21-23 days in the incubator, an about 12 days in the brooder boxes, then another 6-8 weeks in the brooder pens before they can be placed in outdoor pens.

I have 250 9 week old pheasants that I ordered as day old chicks awhile back. That is why I've built this 120'X30' flight pen I'm working on. I plan to sell some and work dogs with some and hold about 25 hens and 8 roosters over the winter for breeding and eggs next Spring. The quail and partridges will be used the same way. I have 5 B.P. shotguns now and that should be fun when it's time to put a couple of birds in the dutch oven or the smoker.

If ya get out this way we'll tie up a pheasant behind a log at 80 paces and you can have your very own "Turkey Shoot".

Yep,you'll be up to y'er eyeballs in birds before you know it.Nice of the fellow to send all thoes pheasant eggs. Can't wait to see one of those big boys dressed,or undressed, as it should be,from the birds perspective;^)Take it easy on the hamstring.Would be hard trying to see the pens from a hospital bed, rolled up to the window.

and some are even good shots too!
Dave

You mean you saw that You Tube video I shot of Andrew smashing all those mergansers last year?

Dang, I thought I pulled that off the net before anyone saw that!!!

Hey Dave, who was the guy you got those from up here. There are a few guys doing it, I would like to support a guy like that if I can.

Thanks.
