John,
I believe your email has been compromised. I've been received a bunch of emails from you with suspected viruses enclosed in a link. Please check your computer.

John,

When you figure out the solution, could you please post your fix? It's not happening to me but several friends are sending me bad links without their knowledge and they don't know how to fix it.

Thanks Scott. I'll give that a try.

I ran a McAfee scan but it was unsuccessful at finding the virus. But someone at work recommended I try CCleaner and AVG. Hopefully one of these programs will work.

I figure that as a last ditch effort I could erase my email address book?

Scott,

I ran that a month ago and picked up one but others have been unsuccessful. I wasn't the one the problem. One friend has a Mac and can't get the Malwarebytes to work.

Yep, I know that. That's why I wonder what is really going on. It appears as though her email has been taken over - not all the time, but at random times it will send the link-to-weird-stuff out to random contacts in her address book. She has two email addy's, an 'att' and a gmail and it only happens to the 'att' email.

I get those "enlargement" ads from friends all the time.

I just thought they were trying to be helpful.

Apparently they know you better than we do. I'm OK with that - I won't ask if you don't tell haha

John-

If you haven't tried it yet, I've also had good luck with Spybot. It's free like Malwarebytes. It has picked up things that Malware has missed and Malware picks up things occassionally that Spybot missed. I also run my antivirus through AVG. Between those three I've been pretty successful in keeping my computer clean. So, if you haven't already, you might try Spybot

I tried to download a couple of the free antivirus softwares. The computer warned me that I was going to download an "executable file". Is this normal/OK? I don't want to open up another can of worms.
