Jon Boat modifications question

Hank, I like that a lot. It is simple and low.

Bob, I watched that video on their website this morning. They have some good ideas.

So far my plans for this year include:
  • A poling platform on the back above my mud motor. Not to stand on, just to cover the motor with something permanent. It will also prevent the motor from causing the famous death spiral.
  • Flotation pods on the back. Not sure on this one but I have heard only good things from folks who put them on.
  • A low, semi-permanent blind. Possibly a canvas add-on blind to raise it similar to TBD. Still gathering ideas.
  • A fold up dog ladder for the front deck. I have an idea I want to develop.
  • Replace all the floors, possibly with aluminum. I like what I have been seeing and it is time for me to replace at least one chunk.
I am not sure how much I will do or which ideas will come to fruition. With another month of snow flurries and unreliable weather I can't even consider pulling the boat out for now.

Nice boat/blind Hank.

Paul, I ran that with a Longtail and also with a 40HP Merc. I had a bout 75% of normal turning with the longtail....

Phil, I have the plans here for the honker. I am toying with building a small stitch and glue boat for practice first and then attempting the honker. I don't imagine I would finish it this year although I might surprise myself. (I am currently on vacation and could take another 10 weeks this year without running out.) I still want to keep the jon boat for really skinny, muddy, marsh holes. The honker would replace my 14' aluminum fishing boat and become a dual purpose boat.

A man can't have too many boats. Right now I have two boats and two canoes.
