June "whats on your workbench?

Very sweet teal JL.

two things of note came off my bench recently:
I was asked to carve a decoy into a piggy bank, here is what I came up with:

Pic is blown out since the bottom is white but you get the idea...

I am getting ready for a trip to Krausman's to take a class with Keith Mueller that starts this Saturday. I was lucky enough to get to fill in a spot that opened up for the class. I plan to spend the entire week working on painting techniques.

Here is a pair of Mallards I plan to take with me to the class. Assuming I get them ready in time.

Hollowed and glued them up tonight.

I have not managed to get into the workshop lately due to having Amber the pup and she has been taking all my time I have now started to paint the Euro widgeon by getting a grey undercoat on it but that seems all I have managed to do, Im hoping things are going to settle in a while so I can rearly
get into my carving again.
Take care and God Bless

Its all about Building that Bond.

Brandon,

You lucky dog...class with Keith! July will by your month:)

I'm just chipping away on a canvasback. Not much has changed since May...oh well. Summer's almost here!

I just painted this guy. I was going for a vintage look.

I ended up changing the paint a bit.

MLbob,

Looking forward to seeing your take on a mottled duck. We don't see to many people doing them. Frond or cork? do you ever hollow your cork?

Kris,

We'll see what happens. Pretty bird - much like a dark mallard hen with a clean, mallard drake "highway truck yellow" bill + a black duck speculum (although I have some reference showing hens with a hevily mottled, more orange bill). Close to a black on the feather edge coloring (appears to be a bit more RS).

This bird is cork. Never felt the need to hollow cork.

have the majority of the paint done on the duckboats trade birds, some fancy non gunner paint and they will be ready to keel ;)

couple of scrap twobaah birds, carved the heads a couple of years ago while setting in the deer blind. About time they got put on bodies will seal with epoxy and paint with oils.
