June - What's on your Workbench?

Bill...somehow I missed the Puffin...NEAT...love it...if I was somewhere where they wintered I'd have to have one...and if I skulled a full body standing on the bow would be REQUIRED.....I was going to say "since they don't occur in Florida" that it would be "out of place" there.....then IO reminded myself that my Bay rig, (mixed Pochards and Scoters), includes Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Labrador Duck and Smew, my Brant rig includes Barnacle, Red Breasted and Emperor Geese and my puddle duck rig includes hybrid Pintail X Mallard, Mallard X Gadwall and Baikal Teal and suddenly "they don't occur is Florida" sounds sort of contradictory........we may just need to talk Mister, (once I complete this move).....though I still think a Razorbill would be WICKED and they are showing up in Florida as of late.....

Loving the Eider rig...and loved the "danger of predation by small mammals" from Steve....those two birds with the bulging breasts and the high heads are in whats called the "steamer" pose....great posture that they assume when they're pushing a wave to intimidate another male......GREAT POSES.......love em......now where are the Northern's........

Don't mention your strange bird obsession, I'm still having regrets.

Steve Sanford, sweet job on those old brrrrrrant.

Steve, thanks for the reply. If you don't mind telling me how I could have improved it for the next one, I won't get my feelings hurt. I think my colors are too dark on the back, and I noticed that I need to make the pattern wider..... I can't seem to get the bird as round as I would have liked with out making the decoy too skinny. I'll take any recommendations.
Thanks, Jeff

This is an African Blackwood Turkey Trumpet with Ivory mouthpiece and accent cap that will ship out in the morning. Jim

Great work fellas!

A cork woodduck and a mini I started on this past weekend. First time hollowing a cork bird for me, those slotted bags get heavier and heavier the older I get. I was going to atleast hollow out the rear of the bird due to the high tail but went ahead and hollowed out the whole thing. I don't imagine its going to take much of a keel to flip it. I figured it would be a learning experience if anything.

Good morning, Matt~

Great Woodies!

Question: How thick (thin?) did you leave the walls - and what did you use as an adhesive to put the body together?

Thanks,

SJS

about 3/4in using a 1in ball bit in my foredom. I was pretty careful and it probably took a good 30 minutes with checking all the areas with the calipers. Used devcon epoxy.

Good morning, Dennis~

That is very nice work! The grain, tones and finish are wonderful.

(and, it would probably make a fine decoy - for Shelldrake, Cormorants and Bluefin Tuna.....)

All the best,

SJS

Dennis, really nice job on that. finish feeder ?
Wood ducks I just fished up. painted in super thick artist oils .
