heck most of these high powered "arteest" type guys on here too that many days to figure it out......you're WAYYYY ahead of the curve....

We need to talk about where that Falcon nest is.......and I got LOTS Of beer in trade for the "secret spring creek" per your blog.....

Welcome! Great looking kids and dog. It's great you're getting them involved in the outdoors. Awesome looking decoy as well.
 
Steve --- a few things: Would that be the merlin nest or the peregrine eyrie? One is EASY to find, the other is damn near impossible.

Second, I might be willing to share the secret based on a few stipulations...but since I've taken up brewing beer, you'll have to trade me some huntin (or even decoys :) for that 'un...but I'll still drink your beer!

when you're ready to cross the mountains I'll be more than happy to introduce you to Sea Duck hunting..or puddle duck hunting on the salt water.....and if you don't want to come this far then we can meet in the middle for divers and Wigeon and Upland.......

AND....I'll bring the beer......

On the Falcons I was referring to the Peregrines.....Heck I'll even trade you a Prairie Falcon that nests in the same situation, (visibile from the road if you know where to look), just off the Columbia.....

Decoys we'd have to talk about after you see mine...I've seen your first one and based on that one I'm not sure you'll still want to trade after you see mine....

I'll try and find the mile marker...I think I wrote it down somewhere. Did you see the merlin photos on the blog? I don't think they pop up on the main page. I'm sure they are not a big deal over on your side of the mountains, but one day two years ago while brewing beer I was sitting in my buddy's back yard and I saw two merlins transfer food. I told my falconry buddy about it and he said no one has ever documented a merlin nest in Spokane. Next morning I went out and found the nest...pretty cool deal, they raised four young 'uns in '08 and four again (at a different nest site) in '09. Got to meet a couple cool people from Fish and Wildlife to document the nest site and Tom Munson who photographed it. Fun stuff for sure.

I'll take you up on some of that salty huntin for sure! Are you layout hunting? Those are some gorgeous burly barrows. My buddy shot a toad drake barrows while we was goose huntin on a little farm pond down by Pullman...first time I'd ever seen one. Very cool bird!

You get after all them oldsquaws and harlis and scooters?

Btw, if the peregrines nest in the same eyrie again it'll blow you away...I mean you can literally walk right up to the base of the cliff a few feet off the road and its only like twenty feet up or something.

Gary--how was the moving? Got a Mallad hen cut out and a carving on it. Gonna be a rester...here's the inspiration photo.

Oh, and the newest member to our family...Hazel Rose Mykiss, born Jan 1st. Hazy takes after her daddy--she likes coffee!

Merlins are one of my favorites.....small but with an attitude that never lets their size get in their way.....we see them a good bit up on the tidal flats on Padilla and Samish where they are the terror of the Dunlin and Western Sandpiper flocks but I only see them rarely in the summer and then only when I'm up high.....if you find a nest this year let me know as I'd like to come over to see, and photgraph, it....

No on the layout boats cause that would eliminate the use of the dog.....place the boat right and all of the Scoters, the Old Squaws, Harlequins and Goldeneyes will decoy at close range while you sit in a nice compfortable seat, cup of coffee close at hand and let the dog do the retrieving......
