Just some pictures

Al,

I suppose if one were up for a challenge, one could have that first picture made into a jigsaw puzzle. Just don't send it to me. [cool]

thanks for posting pics again Al

my wife and I got up at duck hunting hours this past September to get some pictures of a big balloon festival about an hour from here - all set up at 0'dark thirty and with what seemed to me to be a faint breeze - the launch was canceled all three days - i guess the winds aloft were stronger -

i do enjoy seeing your pictures

Thanks for the pics Al.
The Balloon Festival in Albuquerque is fantastic.
Is that dust your dog is cavorting in ? We don't have dust in Ohio, just MUD.

Dave, now I am wondering what kind of mood I would have to be in to even begin such a thing? That is a heck of a good idea.

Thank you, Rick. We have had similar things happen to us at the ABQ Balloon Fiesta. As for 0 Dark Thirty, for us we must leave our home around 3:00AM to get up to ABQ, so we can park the car, then catch a city bus to the site of where all the balloons launch. It is worth it just to be standing only a few feet from these balloons and the way they are packed into this area. The sights and sounds are worth it without a doubt.

We happened to be there on opening day one year when the box winds were absolutely perfect. This means that they left the park and floated south, then gained altitude came back across the park but quite high and headed north. Then they left air out and caught a southerly flow back to the park and landed their balloons. That was quite a sight.

Hi Rich. Tell me one more time what you are asking about. Does it have something to do with how much it is to get on one for a ride? If so I have no idea.
Al

Bill, that is a dust of extremely fine particles made up of silt. Too much of that stuff used in a farmer's field to irrigate and it will smother the crop. If certain areas get a lot of traffic the silt breaks down. Here is what it looked like where I one hunted the Rio Grande. Every day I drove the same path out to the spot where I hunted. Well not every day, just Monday through Friday. I do not hunt the weekends. My Mule was sinking into at least a good 8 inches of it. Here are some pictures of Chip and Habi going after a bumper. I did this only once and stopped. When the winds pick up I cannot hunt this area. Bill, just so you know, the area that we live in as far as a high desert is concerned we once had a day a few years back when we were in a severe drought at the time where our humidity rate for the day stood at 1%. It is dry beyond your wildest imagination. We have areas where BLM allows 2 cow/units and their calves per section and that is only for 6 months. The rancher has to sell the calves or move them to another area. It is hard to imagine a square mile of land needed to feed 2 cows. If the rains come then they will increase the amount of units per section.

Morning Al,

Maybe Rich is asking "what lens do you use for balloons?"

As far as cost to ride, my wife and I did a sunrise ride + Champagne brunch over Napa Valley back in '92 I think. Seems to me it was about $100 per person. Yes, a lot of money but really a once in a lifetime event. Pretty neat experience drifting over the vineyards and listening to peoples conversations quite a ways below you. We produced zero noise except the burner now and then.
