King Eider shot in Utah!

Heard some pretty interesting news the other day that a hunter had harvested a king eider on the Great Salt Lake. It has since been confirmed by photos as a 3rd year drake. I can't imagine how or why that bird was here, but I can imagine how lucky the hunter that harvested him would feel! There have been a fair number of scoters and oldsquaws shot on the lake, even a harlequin duck last year, but this is a first. I have seen a photo but it's not mine to post, anyway I thought I'd share this.

As long as you give credit where credit is due, I don't see the harm in posting a picture...ie. say you got it in an email, saw on a local forum, or pulled from a local news site...and post a link to where you got it. In reality, we aren't making a penny running this site, and if you post a link to a site were you found the picture, they will see an influx of traffic, which they most likely will appreciate...just my 2 cents.

Regardless, yes, very cool, hope it was in good shape and worthy of mounting. I'm not big on mounted game, but I'm sure a local taxidermist would appreciate a gifted rare bird to add to their portfolio.

That is incredible. Birders would have come from everywhere to se it. For a Mid Westerner it would have been a lifetime bird. I happy for whom ever got it.
