I know 2 guys who have this breed, and they seem to have the drive and smarts of a shorthair, and love to retrieve. I"ve kicked around the idea of having him breed to a lab. Any Taker? Lucky anit to picky.

Kooing ?? Kooing for a bitch to breed? Paul, I'm not familiar with that term but let me know if it works, I may want to do some "kooing" next time I visit a bar. :>) :>)

I did some research and came up with this "kooing video". After watching that, I don't think I''ll be doing any "kooing" at any place where people might know and recognize me.

PS. I still want to know if it works for you tho. BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Why not just get a german wirehair pointer. Then you'd have a dog thats smarter than shorthair and a lab and loves to retrieve!!!!! ha ha ha

I have hunted over the lab/gsp mix several times in South Dakota. Excellent dogs and made me want one. Good choice !!

I am going to bite my tongue as much as I can. Seriously consider what you thinking of doing. If you find one are you going to be able to git rid of all the puppies to good homes? What happens if the breeding takes and you get the prey drive of a lab and lack of retrieve of some GSP's. Are you going to have to pay people to take them away. There are enough mutts out there and adding more to the population with questionable health and hunting ability is not the best choice.

Now if your serious about wanting the intellengece and prey drive of a shorthair and retrieve love a lab. Look at established breeds and puppies on the ground. Shorthairs orginal intent in Germany (Kuzhaars) were bred to be excellent retrievers amognst other things, once they came here to the US, many were only breed for upland and have had the desire to retrieve bred out of them. So search for DK's or a GSP out of NAVHDA lines and you will find that shorthairs make excellent retrievers. You may even find the right breeding of a lab that has all your looking for as well. Lastly there are many other established verstalile breeds that fit the bill.

If you just want a lab/gsp pup pm me and I will give you the # for the guy in SD that I have hunted with that breeds them. He is selling the pups to hunters in Montana with great results. I did not see any flaws in the dog by crossing the two and have hunted over several dogs from different litters.

I don't know if you remember this, but last year Bryan and I had a rather heated discussion in your shop of purebred versus mutt, I like mutts, pure breeds are bordering on in-breeds IMHO...but then, I also like cats (let the criticism begin)

I got to agree with BillS on this one. Unless you have at least half dozen people who will take them don't even start. I must confess I am sickened by all the 'designer' dogs being bred now. You don't always get the best of both. If your GSP is a great dog find another GSP.
Maybe look for a Pudelpointer pup if you want a different type of dog. There are lightly built pointing labs that would do anything a lab GSP cross would do if everything turned out for the best with the cross.
