Just purchased an L.L. Bean Upland Chukar hunting jacket for $28.99 marked down from $99. They come in three different colors with one being hunter orange and brown. Free shipping for orders over $75. Just posting if anyone else may be interested.

Mike, thanks for the heads up...I love these coats and you can't beat the price. Just finished ordering mine. dc

I have an older Cabelas jacket that the front pockets have holes from the briar and I am always losing shells so it was a no brainer for me. Glad I could help.

FYI...related subject: I bought an upland bird vest from Cabelas this year that is effectively a backpack --- with the "pack" component shaped like a bird carrying vest. Lots of pockets... it's incredibly comfortable and for old guys like me it distributes the weight evenly and makes it worlds more comfortable when walking long distances. HOWEVER... One drawback: the wide plastic strap over the shoulder takes getting used to when raising the gun to fire... you have to mentally add more space between your shoulder and gun pad. Took some getting used to.

Hey Mike. I love LL Bean clothing. I have the field jacket, some button up shirts and just purchased the waterfowl wool sweater this season. Their stuff wears like iron. The sweater is especially great for cold weather and their prices are much better than Filson. "Buy good clothing once!" That's my motto.....................Kevin

I was hoping for a finders fee from someone at duckboats. You know, something like thanks for the heads up, by the way Mike, why don't you head down my way next year for the opener. Nah...just glad to pass the good info along. Glad to see some of the guys bought jackets. I might pick one of the non hunting one up as well just for whatever.

It was a Fri, Sat and Sun sale, the jacket is still at a good price for $58. I have never really had a bad purchase from LL Bean. There tall sizes are great for me I am 6 4 so it is a great place to shop. Any time I buy stuff from Cabela's it does not fit and the shipping is a rip off. You do not pay to send things back to LL-Bean.

That clears it up Chris.I've shoped at Bean's for over 50years,and made many trips to the old store in Freeport. They have /had great outdoor gear.I can always depend on their sizing, especially shoes and boots.Cabelas fitting is somewhere in the far east, however,I noticed that some of the bean gear is going the same route.

Early hunter gets the bird...ah...er.. jacket. I didn't know that it was a three day sale but several of us were able to get them for $28.99. Maybe it's the old bait and switch.

Has anyone bought the LL Bean waterfowlers sweater with the windblocker material? If they ever go on sale do yourself a favor and buy one. I bought one before the season opened and used it on several really cold hunts. It is the best hunting sweater I have ever owned. The price is kinda steep, $99, but worth the money. Fortunately for me every day is sale day at Beans ..... the wife is an employee and gets a pretty good discount.

Chris,,,

Interesting comment about Cabela's. I wear the Cabela's Guidewear shirt for doing field work and find it very durable and comfortable. I am not as tall as you (6'2.5"), but have a long torso and they fit in both sleeve length (my sleeve length 38.5) and body. I began buying those types of shirts in 1999 and the original ones are just now beginning to turn into rags, so they have a very long life.

Matt,

As of late, I am finding Cabelas stuff, hit or miss with far more misses. I am sending back a waterfowl jacket that isn't even worth the sale price. The Herter's are going back b/c they won't even last 3 hunts. But, sometimes you get something worht it that last like your shirts. That's what usually happens when you outsource over seas. I don't believe that Filson is made in the U.S anymore. At least that is what my tags say.
