Last duck hunt of the season...

Had some wonderful late season diver shooting this weekend. Thanks to Steve McCullough for his kindness and direction. Hunted with my good friend Bobby Vericella and, his excellent Chessie Boon. Boon is from Beth and Mike Trudel's line of Chessies. Beth and Mike, you would be proud of this pup. Bobby should be too. He is a dandy. Also, great to see our friends Clint and Joe Behrman. Lots of bluebills and even a greenhead dropped in our spread. The Lord blessed us with some great hunting and outstanding fellowship...

Pat- thanks for sharing the photos. That is a great looking Chessie.

Am I seeing pool noodles on our anchor lines as floats? That is genius. I use old windshield washer fluid jugs. The noodles would work really well too.

You sure made that last hunt memorable. Congratulations. Nice pictures and Boon sure looks like a keeper to me.
Whittle away, now. I'll look forward to seeing pictures of the decoys you will be carving this year.

thats right on ,
nothing like last days they come bitter and sweet dont they?
i was wondering do you always run the lines straight out from the boat ?? Its i run them the other way and sometimes put a anchor mid line and haul it one way or the other to staggar it a bit ,you are very successfull and i am not and i seem to be doing alot more work lol.....i hunt current s from rivers or tides as well.....as some flat water.....
just wondering is all.....your never to old to learn a new trick.......

Pat,

Looked like a great day. Not being a diver hunter I like the next to the last photo showing how you set the decoys. I started picking up some diver decoys last year so you never know. Also what is the blue substance shown on the anchor ropes?

Boon looks just like my Betsy - from Mike and Beth as well. She has been a great dog, a very determined dog to get it done and smart as well!

Shermie - Bobby runs them that way so the dog has swim lanes. It worked extremely well. The divers had plenty of room to land. The blue substance are pool noodles Bobby cut to about 18 inches long to serve as a float for his anchor lines. Great idea. Just feed the line through the hole already in them... Pat
