Last hunt of the season

Hello everyone,

I thought I'd put a couple faces to some guys you know from posting. The first pic is a guy I met through this site, who happened to live less than 20 minutes from me. Lee contacted me after my first post where I mentioned I live in NW Montana. After my last post regarding last weekends hunt where I mentioned that I was having a hard time finding somebody to hunt with, he called again and we arranged to meet for one last hunt before the season ends tomorrow.

Things started slow plus neither of us were hitting well, but things picked up after noon. We ended up two birds shy of our seven bird limit. That really galls because I missed a very easy shot on one of two Bull Sprig that were landing in the decoys right in front of us, Lee shot his. Now II'll have that memory all year until I can erase it next season.

We picked yesterday because today was -4 at my house and tomorrow is supposed to be -14 f. Yoda had a very good year, he never missed a bird. Now we switch over to dog training and running field trials until next season. That plus building my Scaup.

Oh, the last pic is our new pup, Gus. He's 14 weeks old and retrieves like a mad man. This was his first duck.

John

Nice pics. But you already know Goldens can make any good pic look even better.

Refresh my memory. You now pup is out of one of Lee's litters correct?

Well now that I have been exposed as a long time reader of this forum I guess I'll try to post some pictures of my own of John and Yoda.

This may take a while.

Here's a better picture of Lee, covered up his nice forehead though. Good thing we hunted on wednesday, the river, lake shoreline and all of the boat ramps are frozen after a couple days below zero. Earlier in the season we drive the boat deep into the cattails, this time of year we have to hunt from stools sitting on the thin edge of the cattails. We were luck to have open water, you can see we're sitting on ice which extends to the shore.

Eric, you really captured that intelligent Golden intensity with that photo, it looks like she sees a bird over your shoulder and you better grab your gun and start paying attention. I did get a pup out of Lee Herskowitz's breeding last summer. Alex is about 6 1/2 months old now and is off in So. Cal. going through basic training. The pup in the photo retrieving the hen I threw in my yard is Gus. Gus is 14 weeks old and he is out of Yoda's sister AFC Paws (Topbrass Pawsability) and Bro a field champion who has thrown a lot of really nice dogs, including Lee's Casey who is Alex's sire. I't all way convoluted and incestuous.

Is that Cassie in your photo? Did you ever find a nice dog to breed her to?
