My son's 3rd and final youth weekend in southeast New York, opening day for him will never be the same. Youth seasons are really a great time for young hunters to learn and experience once in a lifetime opportunities and a great time to mentor young hunters without the distractions of hunting and teaching. Young Tom has really matured as a hunter and had noticeable focus this year, improved marksmanship and picking shots where the bird would fall in the open water. We both had a awesome day with a limit of birds including one bird we could not recover. The marsh has limited open water with very thick flooded vegetation/hummocks. It looked like a clean shot and the bird fell within 10-yards of the open water, but no luck after well more than an hour wading and beating the brush. Decoying and jumpshooting from the canoe, a full day in the marsh.
