Late start; good choice...

After three nights of single digit temps and daytime temps in the teens, my boy Doug and I took our time over breakfast, and then started the tour of all the sloughs we normally hunt. Every one was frozen out (ramps as well). All the ramps with access to the main stem of the River were in areas wrong for the wind, but Dad remembered a little ramp that might work. We didn't get set 'til after 11:00, but ended up picking the right spot. Birds worked us between 1:00 & 2. Temps came back up all through the day and were in the mid - 30's when we picked up.

Had the frond decoys in the rig. They have fast become my favorites. Sadie did some nice work when we knocked down three out of a group that came right to them - after chasing down a swimming cripple and making the second pickup, she handled flawlessly to a third bird that had been swept away by wind and current. Must've been well over a hundred yards away when I gave her the line to it.

Nice Job Bob. I really like the different image the frond gives. Definitely aces for fooling the decoy wise birds.

Whether it be a frond, hunk of wood, strap of ducks, hat pin, etc. etc., you have a real talent for making things very pleasing to the eye. Don't ever stop.
