Layout boat plans

So I've convinced my wife that I need another boat and want to build an open water layout. Are the Waterfowl-WOrks plans the only ones available or are there other ones out there?

There is another set by a fellow in Michigan with a site called MarshMonster. I have no experience with his plans except reports on other sites that I have read and those claim that the boat is rather hard to put together. I have a set of the Waterfowl Works plans and one of these days I may even make the thing although with the drop in bag limits it doesn't seem to be worth all the work anymore. It may be time to go back to puddler hunting.

From what I understand the WW plans are the old Paul Busick plans. I heard that WW bought the rights to Paul's plans and boat. I think there "Erie" bought is the old Busick. I've never used Paul's plans but remember folks saying they were good.

I did use marshmonster's plans and there were several things off on them. MM was a lot of help BEFORE I bought the plans, answering all my emails promptly. When I ran into discrepencies with the plans he never answered any of those emails.

I would go with the WW plans, although with the economy if you look around I'm sure you will be finding commercial boats going for about the same as what it will cost you to build one, plus the commercial boats will be lighter. I recently saw a MLB classic go for $600.

good luck,

I have a set of the plans that WW is selling now.
They would probably be the way to go since WW also has a forum page if any questions or problems arise during the build.
I don't know anything about the MM plans other than what others have said; they are a copy of the Busic plans, not all of the templates, measurements match up very well, there is very little support for problems that might come up during the build.

I purchased the WW plans last fall. There aren't many plans available, I did a lot of looking.
The WW plans are the old Busick layout plans. There is a website, www.layouthunting.com that
will show you the "box" being built. WW will support you during the build.
I assume you have woodworking skills?
The plans are very lenghty, not perfect, but, with some intuition they are useable.

If you want additional info, reply to this post with your e-mail and I will contact you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the resposes. This would be my 6th boat I've built and I have the itch to build another. Bruce, when I get a little closer to starting the build I may be getting a hold of you.
Thanks,
Neal

The Waterfowl-Works plans are indeed the old Busick plans. Tony also bought Paul's mold from what I understand and the "Erie" model boat Tony is selling is the old Busick boat. I built one with a friend several years ago who had the plans and had the templates cut out and so on. I don't remember it being all tha difficult. We changed the footbox to make it a little deeper and upset the displacement slightly. If I knew then what I know now I think we could have accomplished it without upsetting the displacement.
