I m wanting to build a layout boat this summer to hunt the open water of a big reservior next season. Has anyone built one themselves? Who has the best plans? Any pointers or advice would be great. Thanks

ive never built one from scratch but i have built a few from sunfish sail boats where i just guted it and built sides and sturn

But it was posted in 2003. I read somewhere that he sold his rights to the building to another guy.

I would get very familiar with the Mighty Layout Boys. They are on their own web site and here at times. They build some very nice boats.

Not discouraging you from building one, but just providing the info.

Michigan Sportsman forum had some posting on layouts as well. Google search busick layout boat.

I believe, that that guys was David Clark, who in turn resold them to these guys:

It does not actually use Busick's name on it that I can see, maybe he just sold the design, and not his name to go with it...or maybe the story I heard was wrong.
I have those plans and they are the Busick boat but from looking over the plans and pics I've seen of completed boats, I think it will be too heavy for me to manhandle on and off my 14'er as I usually hunt by myself.
