Layout Seat

I have one of Ira's Momarsh seats that I use in my sneak boat. He supports this web page and his seat is much better quality than the one Cabela's sells.

I have used these in my sneakbox for about three years now, pretty decent. Takes up a decent amount of room, which can be a big deal for those of us with smaller boats, but works fine for me.

I'll have to check out Ira's seat...

Dave, Frank has one and it does soak up the water. Then it weighs a ton. I can't say as I'm in love with it.

John,
I'm confused, When you say "Frank has one" does he have one of Ira's that soaks up water or one that Cabelas sells that soaks up water?

Being new here, I don't know Ira, so if he wanted to PM me some info on his momarsh seat, I'd be interested.

Otherwise, I was thinking of a turkey hunting chair - one of thos little tubular frame jobs with folding legs about 3-4" long and webbed straps for the seat.

Nick,

If Ira see's this I'm sure he'll chime in. He does have some info on his website . I bought one new this past season. The cover is durable and an olive drab color. Inside is a metal ratcheting frame which is enclosed with closed-cell foam. The frame ratchets and allows you to incline at many different angles. It also folds flat which can then be tucked under the deck while under way or used to sit on. Ohh...and it's comfy. IMO, it's worth the money.

Hope that helps.

I received a similar one when I bought my small 4 Rivers layout back in 1999. It is the sponge-type foam, it does soak up water. Other than that, it has been handy, really comfortable and an overall good product.
After nearly 10 years of hard use in brackish/salty water, it appears that the ratchet may have finally crapped out on me but I just leaned the back up against the rear of the cockpit coming. When I get time, I will open it up & see if I can fix it.
If Ira has ones that are closed cell foam, it would be a better product and I would go with that one.

Hi Dave. Sorry about the confusion....I should have been more clear, my friend Frank has one of the Cabela's seats, and that seat is what soaks up the water.

I have used Ira's invisilounge in my sneakbox for two seasons. It is comfortable and as said does not soak up water. Great product.

Looking forward to trying one of these. Heck, could just use the plywood backboard but life is too short to be uncomfortable in the duckboat.

Clarification....The Momarsh Invisilounge is the one I'm getting

I've been using ths one for 3 years now. No complaints what so ever. I'd would porbably still be using my first one if it wasn't for the fact I left it at the ramp one moring and by the time I remembered and went back it was gone. I've never had any water problems but I'm always in waders so it doesn't matter. I throw in a basket in the back of the jeep and it's always dry by morning. The bottom is vinyl. The one Ira sells is all vinyl if memory serves. You may like his better for the waterproff thing.

Take care,

Yup. That's what I use. Takes up a lot of space, and can be a pain the butt to set at the desired angle. I used it in my Aquapod (almost lying down position), but not in my Estuary. I sit on a flotation cushion and use the backboard Dave made for me.

I've heard of the momarsh one, but never seen or used one.

Rogers has a layout seat that has some lumbar support and a semi flexible frame that actually "assists" you to sit up more quickly, pretty cheap too, and it does work.
This broken down body needs all the help it can get. lol

Ira's seat is the only one to buy. I just got two more for our other boats. I have had one for 4 years. I use it in mostly salt. Never cleaned it before this year, never rinsed it, finally took it apart (very easy) at the end of last season. I couldn't believe that the ratcheting seat still worked. You do not want something that will absorb water in your duck boat, closed cell foam is the only way to go.

Wondering if Ira's seats have any lumbar support, and how much cushion there is on the bottom pad (my tailbone and butt get mighty achy after a day of sitting on the hard boat bottom).
