I was wondering if you guys had any input. I am kicking around the idea of building a layout boat, and was thinking about the one-man Lake Erie. I've never built a boat. I was hoping the guys who have will chime in, and give some thoughts on if this is a good choice or what some other options might be. Thanks in advance, Jeff

Phil, I saw the plans for sale at water works for the Lake Erie model, I was hoping someone would say that's a good choice or maybe look at ----- . Thanks for the info., Jeff

I believe somewhere I still have the plans for the Presque Isle boat....never built the one I got the plans for ....if you want those they are yours....
This boat was bigger than many of the ones I've seen plans on....Had a friend with one and he needed it big since he was taller than I was....and since I fit well into his, (something that doesn't happen for me in the smaller boats like Busick), I bought the plans for another one.....I like the high volume boats for the actual gunning though they are more effort to carry and deploy.....
Anyway the plans are yours if you want them.....

Nice plans and tricky to find. The boat built has a very small cockpit opening thats an oval like an egg. Built one many many years ago from copies of the plans which I still have but would love to have a true original set of them in the folder to display with my other layout history items. Busick, Kalash, Hudanski, Presque Isle would complete it for production layouts from the 70's.

Tony...not the same boat if your build had an oval cockpit....the boat my friend had and the one have the plans for has a rectangular cockpit with radiused corners and was large enough for a person 6'-5" comfortably recline in which is why I was planning on building that one....I was in an original Busick once...spent an uncomfortable week there one hour....place the two beside one another and it would could put the Busick inside the Presque Isle....

I'll look for the plans and see if I can find them...

Interesting indeed, I have my plans in hand and its a 10ft layout by Presque Isle Studio Jeri Klein. definately a egg shaped opening and quite honestly very much like that of busick and hudanski's design. The box is made from 1x3's so not anything like what your describing. I can only assume maybe there was 2 different models offered?

the first page doesn't look the same....next two do...
It's been 30 plus years since I hunted the boat and while I while I'm heavier now I was still the same ht. then and my mind sure says it was bigger than 10'...heck maybe we changed the cockpit design.....I'll be hiding my own Easter Eggs this Easter so I wouldn't be surprised if we did....
More incentive to find the folder.....
I'll let you know when I do....

Pete..long ago long long ago when power tools were big rocks tied to stout sticks....you know about the time you hit 50...

Jeffrey yes we sell the plans for a one and 2 man layout boat. They are complete detailed plans with full size templates that you simply trace onto the material.

Jerry's plans were based on the Busick box.
A friend had one that was 13' long that was incredible.
She was a little heavy to haul in the tender but great to hunt from.
You should build one!! John
