Lessers, Greaters and Gadwalls

Yep, ability of the grass to grow is a combo of consistent water depth, light penetration and salinity. The upper end of Mobile Bay and the lower end of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta is perfect (in most years) for Vallisneria, Najas spp., coontail, milfoil and other grass to grow. And down in MS Sound and lower Perdido Bay we get widgeon grass and shoal grass.

And you are correct, in most cases, find the grass, find the birds. I have one or two areas that seem to be the exception. There is one location that lesser scaup, buffies and the occasional goldeneye just love, but there is not a blade of grass within 2 miles. Not sure what they are eating??

Thanks Bill. Hope you get out at least once or twice before the end of the season.

That's it!!!! I'm done looking at your posts until some of your birds stop here on their way down.... worst season (numbers-wise killed as well as numbers on public waters) since i got my drivers license at 16 and started being about to chase ducks instead of set decoys in the only hole within walking distance of my house.

Guess I'm not jealous enough to say I'm glad for your youngun at least... :)
