Long Line ???

For you those of you that use long lines, what is your spacing between dropper lines? We re-rigged all my buddies long old long lines Thursday night. It was a late night but it didn't matter because the wind was blowing to hard and kicked up Lake Michigan to 4-7ft waves, so there was no way were going out on his boat and the wind was blowing into shore so it would have been pointless to shore hunt. I did get my first blue bill Thursday morning hunting from the shore so it wasn't a completely unsuccessful trip.

Pat We put out 5 strips of 24 Scoter and Eider decoys in the Ocean on a regular basis. We use #120 Tarred Seine Line with a droppor loop tied every 4'-5' , every dropper is tapped over with frictin tape. this makes for less tangles. Our Decoys are rigged with no more than 10" of the same Tarred Line and attacch to the main line with a 2.0x80+40(u,c2t) Long Line Snap-A Style with Cranes Swivel. The Knots that are on the decoy soode are also teped. The Tarred Line I buy in a 2 pound block from the Gearworks a commercial fishing supply house in Riverhead NY. I dont remember the price but it's very inexpensive and the Long Line Snaps I but from the SNL Corperation in Sabastion FL. I think the snaps are about $41 per hundred. Its anything but a perfect system, we still get tangles but we're able to resolve the snafu quickly.

Pat,
I run 3' dropper lines spaced about 6' apart on the long line. That way one decoy will not wrap around another.
I use the real scientific method of measuring: I put on a decoy, stretch out my arms, and put the next decoy there.
Repeat.

So far no problems.

Thanks for the quick responses gents. We rigged all my buddies lines Thursday night, in the 35+ mph winds out of the SE that would stop us from going out on Lake Michigan Friday morning, until after midnight. I used a scientific way of measure as well, stood on the line pulled up to just above my headed and tied off. I had seen a couple pics of different long lines this weekend and the decoys looked REALLY close together so I was worried we had spaced ours too far apart and would flare birds.
